Neodymium magnets






Thanks everyone. I found a site in Canada that sells them. I bought a couple. I am still interested in more. Maybe a block. Trevor how much was your 1inch by 3inch thick one?

I just order some 1' by 1' disk of some Neodymium Iron Boron Magnets
I was curious, how do they ship these things? wouldnt it stick to everything? lol mailtruck, mailbox...etc..
Anyone ever get some in the mail can please Enlighten me on this would be great.

Since we've gone a little OT... anyone want to test out if this is true or not?

@SLPbum - An oversize box with lots of filler(peanuts) to keep the magnet near the center should do the job. If memory serves there also some cases/material specifically made for magnetic shielding.

I actually wouldn't mind a more expert answer myself though:whistle:

When I got my magnet back in college it came in a slightly larger than a shoe sized box... in an antistatic bag, and sandwiched more or less in the middle. I made a smaller wooden box about 1.5" think on all sides for it, and lined the inside and outside with antistatic plastic. Not the most pretty approach, but it worked. Also kept it in a drawer in a wooden desk nothing metal around it.
 
I want a Magnet that can pull the iron out of "Your" blood! :drool:

I wiped my laptop hard drive in high school with my 1" diameter 2" thick NIB magnet. It was going in for a repair because my trackpad no longer wanted to work. I had a bunch of source code on it that I didn't want going anywhere, so I stuck my magnet on the spot where the hard drive was. The computer cut off and wouldn't even boot anymore.

So yes, big rare earth magnets are quite effective. :)

I figured as much. Chances are the article is correct in regards to ordinary magnets. Not n50+ magnets.

@SLPbum - I basically spent the money I was gonna use for a vacation on lasers and laser related stuff:o
 
I know man, its crazy.
Ive been saving up for a dune buggy for about 6 months now. I had the money bout 4 times already, but then I come here, BAM now im again a few hundred short... ahhhh
such is life I guess..

Something about beams of coherent light... just shuts off the accountant part of my brain.

I keep setting myself a spending limit on lasers every month, and every month I end up breaking it... already went over by $65 and it's only the 7th of the month:undecided:
