Ordered a red 7mw pointer and a violet 40-50mw pointer on Thursday, and they arrived today (Monday). My first ever lasers! Very happy

Hypothetical question: let's pretend that I don't "love" the clear coat finish on the kryton host. What would you suggest?

Paint it black?

Or if I were to strip it down to the aluminum, what method would you recommend?

I know that Lazeerer Laser Pointer Forums - Discuss Lasers & Laser Pointers - View Profile: lazeerer does, but I think he works with mechanical means (brushes polishes etc.)

Yours is coming Parcel Post. The total weight was almost 10 pounds and it was too tall to fit into a large flat rate box

I have updated the OP with additional stuff (beam show, labbies, HeNe's)

In addition, because of shipping damages, I have the 445nm diodes from the first XJ-H1600 available for sale.

I worked out a deal with the seller for the damaged projector so that I can still offer the diodes from this 3500 lumen projector for only $35 each :san:
($40 pressed into a module: $45 pressed into a module with leads attached)

I am only offering this for this ONE projector. I am NOT going back into the diode business.

I have a nice new PROXXON TOOLS: Precision Rotary Tool FBS 115/E - The General Store that I need to use for something, I suppose one of the sander, polisher, something-or-other attachments will do something to the host.

From what I've seen, the 1600 has 40 holes for diodes, but the poster of those pictures mentioned 42 diodes :thinking:. It's been speculated that they are the same diodes, there's just simply more of them. Which makes it easier/more convenient for sellers of the diodes themselves, less projector waste lying around. However, a bit of a buzz kill for us folks desiring more power.

The 1600 has 32 diodes in it. The heat sink assembly has eight more empty spots AND the ribbon cable is already in place for those 8 diodes. It may simply be that the 4000 lumen projectors will "fill" the heat sink with 40 diodes.

I have neither the tooling nor the skill to polish this stuff out like Lazeerer does. All I can offer is a wish for luck. Luckily, the Kryton is NOT a complex or intricate host.

Lazeerer just finished polishing up an Arctic! Now THAT has some nooks and crannies on it

Did you make these? (guessing you put new internals in these x2 AAA hosts?)

Is the beam visible at night? (or is that only green lasers?)

these are ready to go? just add batteries?



very interested... I'd like to call "dibs" on one, if they are ready to be used, and would be ok for a total newb to lasers.

On the little (inexpensive) pointers, I sent them first class in a padded envelope. Priority mail would have added $5 to the cost of shipping them

These are Chinese manufactured.

The 405nm light is VERY difficult to see. 405nm is right at the edge of our eye's ability to "see" at all. I would NOT say that the beam will be visible at night, unless there is smoke or fog in the air

They are ready to go. If you are domestic, I will include the first set of batteries free. Sending batteries to some international destinations is problematic

Take some fine sandpaper and thoroughly sand the host evenly. Then you need some etching primer. Prime it, then paint with whatever color you like. Light, even coats till you get the desired depth.

Thanks, I have been looking at some rather interesting automotive paints. That could make for a very nice looking host.
