This is the housing that I'm talking about:

Mine burned out (literally, it smelled really bad) and I'd like to find a replacement laser module, if for no other reason than it looks like something an evil genius would use to cut James Bond in half.

Muahahahahaha!!!!

I've seen a couple of different companies using these and I'm hoping the module is standard. The threads on the module are 9.9mm.

Any ideas?

Hey there, I'm from New York City, New York State, The United States of America (I try to be overly specific since rumor has it that some people live in other places.

I like gizmos. Fancy fashlights, fancy knives, I have a love/hate relationship with my iPad, I put together a fairly hard core gaming computer but don't actually play games much, and, recently I've extended my yearning for bright shiny things to include lasers, which are about as bright and shiny as you can get.

The housing for the laser at top of this thread is very appealing and I have to fight the temptation to take it apart to see how many parts it has, it's just a fascinating crazy piece of work.

Half of my US Senators is Chuck Schumer, apparently an enemy of laser people and caffeinated peanut butter.

It came with two 16340s! I was only following orders!

The company seems to think I shorted something but that seems pretty dubious, I'd guess they overclocked the poor laser...but it wasn't all that bright. I have since bought a much brighter one and I believe I set fire to someone's Christmas tree with it.

Does any body know if that laser has a plastic lens, Fazookus you did mention a bad burning smell. Does the lens look like it melted into a blob, mabey just mabey it didnt hit the diode.....Syko doesnt it look like one of those blue we see advertised as a 100000mw

I should have been more specific, sorry, one of the components on the circuit board attached to the laser had fried. That's why I was hoping that there was a drop-in replacement out there somewhere.

They advertised it as:

Flame 532nm Laser Green Ray 5mw Flashlight Torch Cigarette Burn Beam Kit (Green Metal Set)

Which means 5mw if you dig down through that sentence, I think.

surprisingly those cheap green modules tend to be 30-70mW. yeah, you can get those modules tons of places, and that company gave you the wrong batteries, those green modules only need one battery. you can get a new module from DX, this one should work: 200mW 532nm Green Laser Module (3V 11.9mm) - Free Shipping - DealExtreme

it should output ~100mW. if you want to get a really nice green laser though, go to a well regarded company like jetlasers, laserbtb, CNI, laserglow, dragon lasers ETC... i would reccomend laserbtb if you dont want to spend a fortune for a nice laser, however the other three will be of incredible quality, at a price.

Welcome to the forums!

Have never seen one of those 532nm modules take 2 16340.
Best deal by far is from Fasttech. Was able to set 3 of the 4 I recently received from them over 100mW and they are about $6 each. Either the 3V or 5V 532nm (recommend the 5V) ones that say 5mW. I'll link if needed.

Wow that's one hell of a store!

I could use the link, thanks, I get distracted very easily in places like that.

The company send you 2x16340 ! !

Well, to be fair the thing didn't actually explode, so that's in their favor.

Also I didn't pay anything for the thing, when it burned out they said to just keep the remains. I'm just trying to reanimate it in the name of the environment.

can you find and post an email address for C Schumer-if several member contact him with our point of view it may the the 1st and only time he heard ther 'other side'-

gave you a +7 for adding your location- it does matter-----TY also for making an intro--do you happen to post one in the right section 'Welcome' with a title like 'hello from NY' you will likely get posts of members near you--

whereas fewer will read your post--

at most slow-moving forums they care nothing about double posting-this forum is NOT one f those-point being-20 min apart you made two posts (#s 5 & 6 iirc) when posting and yours is the last post you need to use edit and simple add the new comment to your previous post--------exceptions are new info on an old thread where yours is the last post OR as a bump in a For Sale thread- thus keeping it towards the top and more people seeing it--

By default ,unless we opt-out, any thread we have posted in , when a new post goes up, you get an email about that-

......PM if you have any questions for me--hak

I've been tempted to buy one of those laser pointers for a couple of years, but the price was too high for something I didn't know for sure what the output was, some of the China sellers list that at a price which is ridiculously high if it is only 100mw. I only say "only" because the price was so high, nothing wrong with 100mw, in fact, be careful with it!
