NEED HELP: Tailcap stuck with batteries in laser

I have several pieces of old leather belt.
Different sizes so they fit most projects.
If you get it apart, you may have to
chase the threads with a small triangular
file to clean them.
Some housings have trouble closing on
a protected cell.
HMike

good post Mike- I was thinking about how flat tops vs button cells can be problematic- had a guy return a laser that he said died but he switched from P cells to flat tops and a spacer fixed that --

in that case jumping to the wrong conclusion caused = some unneeded
shipping costs - lose of use of the laser ( for a while) a little bad feelings until the issue was solved etc-- sometimes we overthink- and the solutions are not complicated..
+3 for Mike-- good advice for sure- I used a belt and vice grips to get a host apart once- worked when all else failed and sadly I had scratched up a nice host--:beer:

You might try a strap wrench, the type with a rubber strap.

The wrench handle will also give some needed leverage.

Actually, 2 strap wrenches would be better.

Put 1 on the tailcap, and 1 turning in the opposite direction on the batt. tube.

Good luck! :)

thank you to everyone who gave suggestions, you will all receive +1 for your help.

unfortunately this tailcap is just stuck :( Max contacted me while i was away and gave me all the information needed to send it back to him for repair/replacing. sucks i am going to have to pay shipping back to HK but at least i will have a laser again, at some point.

The mouse pad trick was genius IMO so +3 for that suggestion. i destroyed two mouse pads trying this but that is cheap and easy to replace.

Quick question, since the battery is stuck inside will this cause a problem with shipping and customs back to HK? im guessing HK doesn't care or have strict customs policies about lasers. only problem would be getting the battery back into the US :(

IIRC the USPS is now allowing 18650 batteries in Airmail *IF* the battery is "in a device"

Peace,
dave

I feel like you must be crazy strong to get it on so tight it wont come off. :na:

But seriously it probably has a really crappy threading, and at some point while twisting it on it went off track and jammed up.

exactly my thoughts because the likelihood of it turning 95% WHILE cross threaded then all of a sudden jamming is slim....im just hoping max can either fix it or if not then replace it, either way id be happy. im very very very pleased with max and lazerer
