My X105 Isn't Working

I can't light matches either.. haven't tried balloons or anything yet but I will tomorrow morning. The beam is very bright though. I'm also using Duracell alkalines.

I was burning the black rubber on one of my weights and from 6inches it smoked. Haven't tried a further distance.

The thing is you must be at a just the right distance from the laser for it to light matches. The matches I am talking about are the wooden safety matches with the reddish heads. My X105 lights them instantly.

gmAg21 - I would not attempt to light matches without wearing goggles. First and foremost, you would be risking damaging your eyes, and secondly I don't know how you would be able to hold the dot at the right place on the match because it is so bright.

Hmm... it seems my batteries is whats causing my laser to be weak. If I switch with a pair of fresh Duracells it burns plastic instantly but gets weaker and weaker in terms of burning as time goes on but the beam and dot is still bright. Guess my Duracells only last like 10 minutes..

Rechargeables will hold up MUCH better. I have been using the Sanyo Eneloops in mine and I can not tell any difference in power output between those and lithiums. Hopefully I will receive my meter tomorrow and I can verify this, but it seems the laser is very well regulated.

have you tried using ni-mh? the voltage in alkiline batteries drop of at a constant rate while ni-mh and ni-cad keep an even voltage even though their voltage is .3 volts less. i use ni-mh batteries in my x-65 laser and cant tell a difference between them and alkiline batteries.

I have an x105 and it also will not light matches no matter how much I sharpie them nor will it burn black plastic. It will pop baloons as long as they are within a few feet though. Mine also had the problem with the end cap like Senkat mentioned. Sometimes it would go dim or not turn on at all until I messed with the end cap. When I got the keylock end cap for it, that problem went away.

i think you should've gotten it RMA'd as what you've said your laser does is exactly what my 35mw WL will do

Nope. And also, since rechargable batteries are usually 1.25 volts. Wouldn't the laser be getting .50 volts less with two rechargables?

the NiMh do have a lower output voltage but they can withstand the higher discharge rates put on them by the laser. alkalines tend to drop in voltage when they're under heavy load whereas rechargables don't

Now im gettin a little nervous. i was lookin right at the bright light when i was tryin to get the match to light, my eye is kinda hurting but im pledging not to shine it again till i get eye gear. u guys think anything will happen to my eyes??

Probably just something temporary. I just quickly flashed my laser over the area to see where the dot is then I closed my eyes. I'll have some eye gear by next week.

wikipedia (i know wikipedia is not always right) says 1.35 to 1.4 volts fully charged and unloaded and 1.2 volts during discharge. so it wil vary between .5 to .6 volts less than alkiline. so you are prety much right.

LOL Playing around with no goggles...Sounds like somehting I would do! lol Wait a minute... I did do that! I learned real quick though to get some goggles for this thing! Trust me on this one! Contact NES_DS over in the for sale section and get yourself some NES_Shades. I believe he is still selling them for $29 shipped and they work great.

Gazoo, what are Sanyo Eneloops? ..and where can I buy some? I'm currently using energizer 900mah nimh and they seem consistent. I tried some alkailines but couldn't tell any difference with burning or brightness. I figured it was due to the regulation in the x105.

I saw a video in the multimedia section of a guy poping the heck of some baloons across the room with his x65 and was thinking... hey mine won't do that. I may RMA it after I get my sentorch. Gotta have something to play with right?

You shouldn't look at reflected light so closely without goggles, even if it's a diffuse reflection. Maybe the problem is you're not keeping the laser steady, attach the match and the laser to something to keep it steady hitting the exact same spot on the match for a couple of seconds. Do the same with the balloons (and paint the spot you're hitting black with a marker pen or something).
