I've just finished with my third IR laser build...that is the last diode I had.
It's almost the same as my last build. (UF host, AMC7135 1.4A driver,2x plastic aixiz lenses, 1x18350)
Only difference is that I use 808nm diode and "better" heatsink
Status LED is still there
Here is my last build... http://laserpointerforums.com/f40/my-another-ir-portable-build-1w-1x18650-51065.html
And here are some pictures from new build..
I tried to solder some SMD capacitors on the diode pins to protect diode from voltage spikes.
But when I tried to power up laser it didn't light up. To make laser working I had to turn on and turn of laser about 10 times very fast and then laser worked. AMC7135 probably has protection of short circuit or something like that and capacitors can have very low resistance when they are not charged. Because of that AMC thinks that out circuit is in short circuit. Because of that I had to desolder all capacitors. But I think that voltage spike won't be problem with only one 18650 battery.
I think I'm done with IR builds for now...
