it may not be too soon but sometime in the future i will want to upgrade my already very powerful lasers into another an even more powerful version.

My thoughts on choices are
3.0-4.5W 445nm blue monster laser
300-500mw Green laser
1W+ 638nm red laser
1W+ 650/660nm red laser?

why i want it?
Monster beam and crazy bright dot,
long range, be able to say hi to the guys in the national space station and help charge the mars rover if needed
light anything on fire,
outshine any laser i come across

check my sig to see what i already have

or make a suggestion on another color :)

this will be for handheld lasers

feel free to explain why i should get that laser and even recomend someone who can make me one. (even if it is self nominated :) )

You forgot the 5Watt 660nm red laser. It is possible to build that in a handheld. :)

If I can get the parts, I wouldn't mind doing another beam combining build for you. Though keep in mind, one project at a time. I'm not going to start anything until this current one is completed.

I don't want to do any beam combining with a handheld, except for the labby style that I'm already doing. Nothing in a flashlight like host.

Are you referring to me? i dont remember requesting any projects such as that...

The 5W reds are from Lazeerer and DTR has them in stock for around $425. Drivers are in development. Lazeerer and Foulmist are working on them. This is the most exciting laser for me right now. They are C-mount diodes.

From your list the high powered green sounds pretty cool just for the rarity and wow factor, but sure a 4.5W blue monster would surely impress :eg:

I voted 500mW green laser. For one reason: How much better is a 4.5W 445nm going to be than a 3W 445? Not much, probably. But a 500mW 532nm Laser will be very bright, the divergence of DPSS lasers will lend itself well to burning, and the beam will be hella visible.

true but my strongest is currently 1.6W for blue ,, but 500mw green would also be insane

I am willing to bet 500mW 532nm will burn as well if not better than your 1.6W blue.

BUT! My 800mW 532nm should be here in a couple of weeks and then I will do burning comparisons between it and my 2.4W 445nm Laser. Which, by the way, is a weapon to say the least. So scary. I put my finger in the beam KNOWING THE RISKS because I wanted to experience for myself what 2.4W of power focused at a precise point feels like. It was educational. I am glad I did it, but I won't again.

Sorry, I got you mixed up with my current client. Sorry..
lol no problem, ive sent the wrong builders has it shipped? messages before too

lol and wannaburnstuff, you have done it while focused lol? im only brave enough to do my 1600mw with it set to infinity, bet that hurt lol and 800mw green? i think i might know where you got that one...

My next laser is a 150 to 200mW green. Go for the green bro. Nice beam, can still burn. No point for a 3W laser, only alot of hazards to deal with

Good luck choose well

Yes, I did it while focused. Felt similar to getting electrocuted by my HeNe PSU. Except the pain doesn't go across your heart, but feels like someone puncturing you with a needle.

I just tried with my 3.5W focused to infinity. Hairs on my arm singed off and it was like spilling boiling water on my arm for a brief second. (didn't just flash it on my arm, kinda advanced it over)

I'd probably bet that the 2.4W and 800mW are nearly on par with eachother in brightness.

True I heard its a 3 to 1 for brightness

Forget all the wavelengths you've listed and go for a laser outputing a *556nm.
It will have the highest apparent brightness of any wavelength being only a 1/2nm away from 555.5nm. Remember long range for whatever wavelength you choose the optical system is important to minimize power loss so don't scrimp on the optics and make sure you create a low divergence for the beam. You want a long Rayleigh Range to do this. This app will help you do just that. It has a graphical presentation and not all browsers will show it without Flash Player 6 or later. If you need help with this app just ask.

Thin Lens Gaussian Beam Program.
gausian beam rev 2.0.xls

One other wavelength I've not seen in a portable laser is one at 577nm, a true yellow.

* CNI plus other companies sell lasers at this wavelength.
