Well I got my new hene tubes today from Sam Goldwasser (AKA Sam LaserFAQ).

I got a 16" green 05-LHP-170 only putting out about .3 mw (per Sam, I haven't tested)

I also got a 16" yellow putting out about 1.3 mw. (per Sam)

and a couple small reds (6" very cute melles groit) and a slightly longer) with a power supply for making a night light in the bedroom.

Both appear to be putting out more than I was told although I haven't checked them. I just wired up to make sure everything worked.

The color on the yellow is very hard to see with the bad iphone photos, but its almost golden looking. It has a small secondary dot that isn't noticeable unless you look really close. I'm not sure where it's coming from.

I had a couple spare ac power bricks that I'm going to power them from. Just testing on one.

I can't wait to put them to good use and to compare the green with the new Melles Griot 2mw tube I ordered tonight.

Sorry for the bad pics. May try for better once I get them in use. First two pics are of the green tube, 3rd and 4th are the yellow. Reflection in table is better idea of color on the yellow.

WOW! you got the whole collection there.
I would love to add a green and yellow to my collection.
Have fun with your night light build:beer:

The "ghost" spot is from the mirror being just VERY slightly out of alignment. My 612nm has one too. Unless it is intrusive, I would leave it alone and enjoy the color ;)

There is no reason to go pushing on the mirror if you don't have to

Yellows are pretty rare in the hobby. Congratulations.

Peace,
dave

Thanks for sharing this with us! So is Sam some kind of laser stockhouse owner or something? Is he always accepting offers from people?

He has a classified section with stuff he is trying to get rid of. He has just about anything you could want in gas. He also produces the reference work for information on Lasers (Laser bible as it were).

Sam's Laser FAQ: Welcome Page

Be warned - there is more info on here than you can read. Very intimidating, but will give you lots of help if you want to learn.

I'm too slow at typing and thanks for the info on ghosts - I read that today and already had forgot it.

Right. I knew about his faq, (which I have bookmarked in my toolbar btw) but I just didn't know he actually has stuff that he sells. I might ask him about RF CO2s!

I don't know about that. I've spent entire nights reading through that thing. Always something interesting to find.

Sam is who I got my Lasos yellow from, and some tubes. And who I'm getting something else interesting from soon.

I have also. But even so, I've barely touched the surface on all the stuff in there.

So what is "something else interesting"?

How much did that yellow HeNe cost? it's the next HeNe color for me to get.

Just the tube was $125.00. Which was pretty cheap.

I saw at least two more in the list. One was mentioned above. The other was $50.00 for the tube but it was about .3mw if I remember right.

Never hurts to ask him about them.

BTW, I already had the ac power bricks for both of them. So that helps.

The ghost spot is not mirror misalignment. The outer surface of the OC mirror on most HeNe tubes is wedged, that is the surfaces are intentionally ground slightly out of parallel to prevent internal reflections from messing up the main beam. You don't want to create a secondary resonator outside of the main one.

I have a few of those cute little Melles Griot tubes I got from him as well, they are some of the smallest HeNe tubes I've seen. Pointless pet peeve of mine is how frequently I see it spelled Groit when it is Griot. According to Sam (who knows some guys at MG) the name is pronounced Mell-ess Gree-oh. Last names of the pair of guys who founded it.

Sam has been buying and selling laser stuff for years and has a massive collection of odds & ends. Not only that, he's a good guy to deal with, really knows his stuff and is very honest. If you're looking for something specific, ask him, he may have it even if it isn't listed.

Thanks for the info on the beam and I can attest that Sam is a great guy to deal with.

And I guess I was trying to hard with spelling, I spelled it Groit in one place and Griot in another, same message.

Yeah it wasn't a peeve with you personally :)

I see the name misspelled all over the place, and even pronounced "groit" from time to time.
