new toy I ordered off ebay. IT gets me started.

Only 10kpps, but its ILDA so I can build a soundcard dac and control it from my laptop.

I think firstly I will be upgrading the scanners to 30kpps ones, changing the 405 laser over to a 445 diode, and upping the power on the red and green.

The iphone doesnt do the laser justice, its much more impressive in real life, and a better video will be obtained once I can borrow a smoke machine :)

obviously while filming I was hiding behind the iphone with my good eye, and had my laser glasses on!

Welll I have just had a look inside this chinese projector. Its a model Shinp 460RGP.

It appears to have galvo's, not steppers as previously thought.

The lasers mounting isnt the best (can anyone say hot glue?!).

So later on when I replace the 405nm laser with a 445, and up the power on the other 2, I'll drill some slots and properly mount the lasers and dichros so they are easier to align.. At least the laser show has a nice decent aluminium mounting plate for the lasers and optics, and doesnt use a bounce mirror like in cheaper models. I think once I have replaced the lasers, I'm going to flip the front panel over as basiclly it wont be a Shinp anymore!

For the present though, I'll just be upgrading the voilet 405 to a 445. I already have the 445, just need to set up the flexmod, and install it in the laser show.

Can you take some pictures of its insides? I've never seen a projector built with hot glue before ha!

yeah I am going to take pictures prior to putting the blue 445 in there.

I will have access to a fogger on friday (thursday in the us/canada) so will take another video then.

LOL at burning a black CD case.

I have gotten over the burning phase, but if I feel the urge, my 1 watt greenie will do that quite happily. I'm worried about taking photos of the big green though, for fear of burning my iphone or pentax's CCD. :D

Ok guys, I just shot another video, both with the cover off, and me puffing on a cancerstick next to the laser. Its uploading to youtube as we speak. Light in the room comes from my computer and my ipad (the ipad was doing appstore updates). I didnt notice the screws on the laser, so I can say that its not just held together with hot glue!

Now you can see some BEAMZ!

This things going to look pretty good in a slightly hazed room. That video comes on friday.

Will update this post with the yt code shortly :)

Yes i copped a beam in the face at about 03 seconds and somewhere halfway in. Sorry for the roller coaster ride! *hugs laser glasses!* the beam didnt hit my eyes, but I moved pretty darn quick back from the laser! Its difficult shooting a projector in the dark with laser goggles on!

Another reason I had the PJ open was to check out which laser was the violet so I can change it over for the 445nm blue :). This explains the two extra dots on the wall - does this mean my dichro's arent all that crash hot? It appears a lot of green is being reflected from the pass green, reflect red, and pass yellow/reflect blue dichro

I have a FSX2 ilda dac if ur interested, i bought it from norm on ebay for i think 199 bucks but due to the lack of interest in previous sale attemts u can have it for 50 bucks shipped including a nice looking usb cable.

Thanks mate - I really appreciate that - this means I only need to buy spaghetti to complete the laser show (oh, and perhaps add my laptop into the mix, and an ILDA cable)

By early next year I'll be changing the title to "My not so new 1.5 watt RGB projector!" LOL (upgraded scanners, 2x 640's combined (cheaper than a higher power single 640) and a higher power green) :)

I will take you guys up to my mates farm and shoot videos of his laser projector collection. He has quite a few, and is quite jealous that I've beaten him to a full colour (once I change the drivers over to analogue) computer controlled system. We'll turn them all on.

Sadly he is not a computer head really, and doesnt come on forums, but for new years, what could be better than a mini LEM :)

Bugger! I was playing with my laser show today when it emitted a loud pop, and the bluray laser quit.

I think I will return it for an exchange. Not sure if anything else in the laser went, but I shut it off mighty fast when I heard the sound and smelt the electronic smoke smell!

Lets hope it gets resolved quickly!

I send my condolences.. I hope everything goes smoothly for you! That's always a bummer.

Did anything happen in your house's power line like a surge? Any telltale indicators of what the problem could be? Maybe if you can be sure of the cause and ensure that it can't happen again you could just build your blue laser and use this as a motivator for an upgrade.. food for thought anyway..

These guys were really quick to ship it out from china. I got it 3 days after I paid for it. I'm sure that with a ELF like this they will just swap it over once they power it up and find the blue ray not working. I dont want to plug it in again in case something else goes pop, they could say thats negligence on my part.

I explained to them that the laser was unplugged fairly quickly when the sound was heard.

Fingers crossed!

Wow they have just replied - they are going to see if the manufacturer will replace the laser, or get it repaired for me.

Gotta love powersellers on ebay with 100% feedback - they dont want their reputation tarnished by not helping out the little guy!

I should drag out my soldering iron and make my 445 - the flexmod is a very easy driver to set up according to the manual.

They are happy to replace the laser show projector. I wish I could leave them more positive feedback once I get my replacement!
