Mods you can move if its in the wrong section.

I'm making a brick host out of aluminum. This one is square since I don't have a lathe just a manual mill lol.
It holds a Meredith LDC-10. I made it a snug fit and held solid via a 10-32 set screw.
The lid is held down with 8-32 recessed aluminum screws.
The holes around the lens hole are for cooling air flow. I plan to use a mini muffin fan to do the cooling mounted to the lid. I think that i will have it pull air from the lens area through the body over the driver and then out the top. I think this is the best option?
I'm still researching battery options to see if its viable to put inside or have a corded external option. So it can be run off a battery pack or a wall power supply.

I think this one will have a 445nm in it. the driver is one I'm making based on the lm337 with variable current.
I made a hole on the back already for a micro toggle switch.
I'll add more pic's as it progresses.

Looking very stylish. You're off to a good start.
Will you make it power line dependent or will it have batteries, "porta-labby"-style?
What will the diode's housing be, a module like Aixiz or Olike.
Forgive my ignorance, but what is a Meredith LDC-10? A lens?

Thank you. :)

I think ill make it so it takes both. :D
The Meredith unit is a collimating glass lens, housing and is able to easily swap out diodes as they are threaded in.
I think ill use a little thermal compound on the diode. and between the housing and the host.
Also i'm not sure it I want to get anodized or not, or maybe nickle plated? There is a shop next door that does all sorts of plating even real gold lol.
and there is a anno shop close by.

variable current? 445nm? how?

I plan to use a lm117circuit set up as a variable voltage regulator and another lm117 set up as a variable current. So it would be power source to voltage reg to current reg to laser diode. Would this work? I haven't built the circuit yet.

ya you can make a external power supply ..
voltage regulator adjustable with a volt meter :>
but do you have a pot that can handle up to 2W for the current regulator?
if not then you will have to set it at .. wathever mA

Right now I have some cermet 3/4W ones. In theory I could run two in parallel couldn't I? If it proves to be a problem there is a Fry's near by. :D

Just got in the mini fans in the mail, these things are small.
I drilled a vent hole in the lid, drilled and taped the holes for mounting. I used m3x16 stainless screws to secure the fan to thee lid.

All I have left is the driver.

I like it and it looks like it will be practically indestructible when your done!

Well since I'm waiting for some components to come in the mail I thought I would start on my next host build lol.

It uses a pre-made box I found at Fry's. I made a block that accepts a pressed in diode on one end. Then drilled out the other end and am going to tap it out to 9mm .5 threads to use the axis fully threaded glass lens.

Hmm, why not just make it a single current regulator, that is adjustable via
a potentiometer, kinda like I did here:

Also, have you seen this one?

I see one laserbox is not enough for you, eh?
Good man!:D:D

Yea I saw your build, good idea with the dip switches. I was thinking of doing something similar. Maybe just a high low. I have some on-off-on switches I could use.

One can never have enough laser boxes :eg:
