I got my 2W 635 cmount from chris a while ago, but I only got to test it yesterday. It is bright red :D I have it mounted, but how would I focus it? Where can I get a lens that'll focus it without much loss?

Nice , any pics

You'll probably want to talk to heruursciences. He Has collimation lenses and cylindrical ones that help to correct multimode beam output.

Beasts won't be out for like a long time since kenom doesn't have enough orders. The cmount kryton was sold :(

oh my I thought he was getting close! 2W of 635nm in a beast would've been the best!

^I know I'm no fun, but personally I'm all for keeping lasers over 750mW UN-portable. it's just too much power to be waving around as a pointer. The chances that a rogue reflection would be damaging are very much higher than with lasers below 750mW.

There are guys here who have made some ridiculous IR handhelds that output multiple watts of power, and in the right hands they are safe. I have my reservations about making these things commonly available, though, due to their extremely hazardous nature.

I'm right there with ya about the IR builds, but simply for the sake of saying "I have a 2W handheld red laser" is not something many people even here get the chance to say. I suppose that if you're someone that has experience with c-mounts, then you're probably going to be wise enough to be taking all precautionary steps for safety.

right now I don't think it'll be handheld. But once the beast comes out I'm def. in for one. You guys don't know how beautiful a square beam is :D

I know how un-beautiful a square beam is.. really, though, it's all about personal taste.

I have a 650nm CNI labby that is multimode.. square beam with stripes through it. Very lovely to behold. (not really, but it does the trick..)

Thought I'd post a pic for those who might not know what I'm describing..

very first, if it doesn't already have it, you'll need a fast axis lens. That will get your beam into a highly divergent square, rather than a line.

Next you'll need either an anamorphic prism pair or a couple rod lenses to clean it up a bit, then you can bring the beam size down and collimate it. But, dont expect to get a very good beam. 4x4mm with 2-3mRad divergence would be a great success.

If all you want to do is burn stuff, you can just use an aixiz lens to focus it down into a spot.

I don't think mine has a fast axis lens, where do I get one? And how about these prisms and lenses? I want to get somewhat of a beam out of this
