Take out the battery as soon as possible.. You'll have to wedge off the back using a soft tool of some sort... A credit card works well.
Now, put your phone in a glass of fresh water. Yeah really, I'm serious. Use distilled water if you can. Swirl it around, make sure you soak out any of the sugary goo inside. Take it out, shake out as much water as you can, then put it somewhere warm with lots of ventilation for at least a week before putting the battery back in.
I've used this method to resurrect a laptop drenched in cola, a cellphone that went swimming in a gin and tonic, and a cellphone that was in my friend's pocket as he took a dip in the ocean.
The theory here is that water doesn't actually harm electronics, it's pretty much nonconductive.. It's the salt or sugar in a beverage that causes the real harm.
If you want a cheap phone that's nearly indestructible, has great voice quality, great reception, and great battery life, pick up a motorola f3 FONE off ebay, they go for about $30 brand new, unlocked.
I've had one for a year and a half now and I'm generally really brutal to my phones.. Best phone I've ever had.
Doesn't have a lot of fancy features, no web browser, no camera, etc, but the one thing it does, it does really well, and that's make calls.
If you are going to throw it away otherwise, I'd be happy to take it off your hands (of course I would pay shipping).
