My First Build

Most definitely, if there is a spot for it, do it. MAKE SURE everything will fit before you do so because, this goes without saying but, it will permanent after you adhere the half moon. The more thermal adhesive and/or compound the better for these big diodes, they produce A LOT of heat. Anywhere you can get a good transfer to another spot, do so. :)

EDIT: It will be a lot easier to do the driver first, wait for it to dry, then do the half mood heatsink. Instead of trying to clamp both down at the same time to exactly where you want them. I know this from experience. ;)

Thanks! I was reading the Arctic Silver website and found this:

"Even though Arctic Silver Thermal Adhesive is specifically engineered for high electrical resistance, it should be kept away from electrical traces, pins, and leads. The cured adhesive is slightly capacitive and could potentially cause problems if it bridged two close-proximity electrical paths."​

Is there really a worry about me bridging contacts with the stuff? I was thinking I would use about 3 or 4 drops to adhere the half moon but that will surely get up among the components of the circuit board.
 
I have covered my SXD Driver 3 times now with no problem, but that is scary they say that! Hopefully someone more experienced than I can chime in on this subject.

I must confess that at first I wasn't very impressed at all. A little dot and not much beam. Then I remembered the new safety goggles. :o I pulled up the goggles a bit and WOW! It's a nice bright beam!!!

This should not ever be a problem with low voltage DC circuits like we use in our lasers, the slightly capacitive thing would be a problem though in AC circuits.

Ok, good! I put quite a bit to attach my driver and it is working fine. I haven't tried seeing how long it takes for this diode to get my host hot. I have left it on over a minute and it just seemed mildly warm.
