my first build (lab style phr)

Your work on that billet is very very nice, it's artwork man! just superb. Is machining your profession or hobby?

Nice milling work! Makes for a great looking labby. Now you'll need to make up a red and a green to match ...
 
I've seen him post many times not to turn the laser on with the cap on. I happened to me too. PHR with a minute or so on it. Turned it on with the cap on for a few seconds, then it would not burn anymore, then LEDd shortly after.

Thanks for the heads up! He posts sooo much at a time that I tend to just scan through it all too fast. After reading this, I imagine this is why my latest greenie seems to be weaker now :cryyy: Would have been nice if someone would've said something about this when I posted a pic of it on here a week ago. Eh oh well, now I know.

I dont understand how you killed your diode?

Your setup is great!

If I may make a suggestion... your current heatsink setup kind of makes the primary component of your build, sit on the outside of the rest of the box.

I don't know if you're able to with the setup or not... But I might be curious to see what it looks like if you removed the heatsink, slid the aiXis module back further into the enclosure, and then mounted the heatsink on the rear half of the module, on the inside of your enclosure. Do you think it would look a little more "lab" like?

Just an idea. :)

yeah i thought about making it so the focusing ring is flush with the box and the rest inside, Then there really wouldnt really be a need for a nice machined heat sink becuase the box is aluminum and i would think that the box would act as a heat sink. idk though, I could take pics of it mounted that way if you would like...

Thanks man i really appreciate your kind words! Yes machining is my profession...Im a cnc machinist and machine cool ass parts for the military and aerospace, its fun! :D

P.S. you prob got that mesage cause I was having trouble putting my vid on here...I was trying to make it so you could just view it in my thread instead of having to click on the link, but I couldnt figure it out lol

You could sell custom hosts on here and make some bucks.

Great work, although I know the laser module looks great sitting outside the box, the fact that the box is so thick and heavy duty it might be worth incorperating it into the interior of the box.

would you be able to machine custom designs? Putting together a cool little machined TEC chill box similar to jayrob did with separate parts would be cool, because it could all be completely custom fit for TEC cooled labby and would look awesome :P then just ramp the PHR upto like 200mA :P

Yeah I figured it would be better more inside the box, I cant decide if im going to change it or leave it.
Yeah I can machine pretty much anything on my machine. I just dont have much time during the week to make custom stuff because i gotta get my real work done. Im sure i could go in on like a sat or sunday tho and just work on my own stuff not on the clock.
And idk what TEC cooled means yet...im still a noob....well guess that means i gotta go research now :)
 
HEck if you would make one for me i would buy it!!! How much did it cost you to make BTW?

oops i said free...cause i was asuming u were talking about the aluminum part of the build...The rest was $19.83 for the phr in axis housing, $13.00 bux for the rkcstr driver, The 9v wall adapter was free cause i had one just laying around in my room, The fan i think was $10 from radioshack and the switch was like $1.00

Total=$43.83

I dont think the fan was really needed...but I wanted it, so It would have cost me $33.83

Thermoelectric cooling uses the Peltier effect to create a heat flux between the junction of ... solid state refrigerator, or thermoelectric cooler.

It's a solid state refrigeration unit, cool stuff.

Peltier junctions (the name of the device used in TEC) are also commonly used in soda pop chillers, micro refrigerators (Like a six pack fridge for a car, tailgate party, etc..) and high end CPU cooling.
