Hello laser pointer forum community!

This is my first REAL laser, (havent had any over 10mw) and my first diy laser.
I only have one concern though. I ordered the fixed assembled 100ma driver that fits inside the aixiz module however my host takes 3 aaa batteries. Which means there would only be 2.25 volts going to the driver! :-/ . Is there any way to add 2 volts?
My progress so far-
I bought a Dorcy flashlight (not sure of the model but it was around 10$).
 





I removed the resister, and the led? Then I soldered 2 wires to the positive and negative terminals and taped over it with electrical tape to prevent shorts.

Then I glued a rubber washer onto the flashlight head

If the host holds three AAA batteries, that's a total of 4.5volts on primary cells, or 3.6volts on rechargeables.

Yeah, but the problem is for the driver you are supposed to use 2.25 more volts than the laser diode needs. (btw I am using the rkcstr driver)

You use 2 @ 10440 batteries (3.7V rechargeables) with a "dummy jumper" in the third hole.

awesome guys, I appreciate the replies!

Since I'd want a semi professional look, lol, (and cant find any aaa dummy jumpers, only the c and d kind) I think I'll use two cr2s.
John, do the batteries last a long time for you? Or do you think I'd be better off using two 10440 batteries and a jumper.

the cost of cr2 much more than I anticipated! :o

EDIT: hmmm.. do you think they would fit?

2 Regular cr2's(~6.24v max) is still 1v under what you will need to run a BR with a rkcstr driver.. The 2 10440's wil provide JUST enough voltage:) They should give you decent battery life before needing recharging. 3 of them would run longer.
 
yes i havent actually measured total time but since i have made it second recharge probibly an hour and a half on each charge i usually run it 5 minutes at a time hope this helps
 
Do you think I could safely run 3 of them without burning up the diode? hmm... or Maybe I could have two 10440 and one aa?

only 2 will fit three i wouldnt try it would be about 12.3 volts at a full charge i think it would smoke . mismatching two different battery types is a no no i have heared

DO NOT MIX BATTERY TYPES!!!!!!!

You can run it with three 10440's. I do. The only challenge you have is that the extra voltage is converted to heat. Keep your duty cycle under three minutes and you have no problem. Don't run a laser light show for 20 minutes with it. ;)

hehe I should have known better (I was thinking that was old and new batteries)... Thanks for the help though!

I'll buy some of those batteries, although they seem kind of uncommon. I could order them from dealextreme, but that would take a year.

Does anyone happen to know if aaa dummy batteries exist?
