The diode need 5V. You may have to go to a battery specialty shop or hit an online source for the 3.6V batteries.

Will the diode light up AT ALL?

I remember reading somewhere that diode's are current driven(obviously need some voltage).

AS long as there is enough, the diode will take what it needs, even if you make too much available. But if you don't make enough available, it won't work at all. As long as you supply more than the minimum, it will work. But less than the minimum will not.

darn.. I guess I'll use that host for a diy red.
I will post pics of the blu ray after I get the driver (should be here around tuesday or wednesday) btw, if I had 2 cr2 batteries (6v) going through the driver (3.75v)
