So a while ago I finally lost my ability to resist buying the new 1W Nichia 520nm laser diode from DTR. For the build, I decided to go with a 2x 18650 host from Ehgemus and an X-drive to power the diode with. I can't quite remember what I ended up setting the current to, but my output is near 1.25W with a G2 lens so you can look at the PIV charts if you are curious enough. :D

I LOVE this build! The host was a perfect choice for this laser diode, as it is well heatsinked and can handle this power hungry and relatively inefficient laser diode. After I finished the laser, some things came up and I never got around to making a video until now.

As always, thanks for the great service DTR and Eghemus!!

Great to see a video of you again, it's been a while. You made yourself a very nice laser, definitely +rep worthy!

Is the divergence any good? I've been thinking about building a 1W 520nm since I dislike the divergence of my 445nm so much I'm not sure if I'll like this one.

Very cool light saber you've got there styro, that 520nm certainly is beautiful!

Thanks! I haven't done any official divergence measurements, but it's something on the order of our 445s. Single mode is always the way to go if you like a tight beam. :p

Awesome bit of kit there! Also interested in duty cycle? PS did you recite the hexamethyl equation from memory? ;)

Thanks! I try to run the laser at roughly 1 minute on/1minute off as it gets fairly warm. And yes I remembered the IUPAC name for the acetone peroxide trimer as that was one of my first organic chemical syntheses as a kid. :D

Awesome video. Yea they do produce a lot of heat. Should be close to the heat of the 5W 445nm unit you built.

1w of 520nm gets ridiculously hot ridiculously fast. I don't even run mine for more than 30sec at a time max. Very nice looking build there though. Probably one of my favorite wave lengths personally.

wow iv waiting for this video lol. Amazingly bright. Im disappointed about the heat issue though. The m140 in my maglight runs super cool at 2w even after 9 minutes constant on which is pretty long.

I was actually thinking about a mag build with this 1w green diode as i wanted a long duty cycle. now im not so sure.

The good news is a just bought a white Arcane 2.0 462nm from the Joker. which is my favorite color. cant wait to get it.

Any plans on a video with the 462nm diodes? Im trying to find a good comparison of the m462 diode at 2w vs the m140 at 2w

Thanks everyone!!

I actually built a 462nm laser using the 9mm laser diodes but never made a video. I might put something together though!

Wow, that thing is bright, really like your videos, you should upload more often. :D +rep

That is so bright, I'd love to see one in person.

Great video as always.

Nice, can you take some close up photographs of the host so we can see it better? Thanks :)
