MXDL Question

$475 for a 65mW blu-ray is a lot better that over $1000 bucks for a 30mW RPL... Hopefully, more like 3 or 4 years for the price drop. It all depends on what a guy wants...For instance, I know that you want one of my heatsinks, but if you think that 20 bucks is too much, you will choose to use washers, or something else... On the other hand, I don't think you can get a 65mW blu-ray in a handheld. If so, what is the price?
Jay

Edit: I just got a brand new Sony drive for $300 bucks on e-bay. We will find out if the diode is what it is supposed to be. $300 is much better than $475!

Well Jay, it is of course up to you. I am not too concerned about you receiving what the guy is selling since he lives only about 20 minutes away from you. If I was in your shoes I would probably buy one providing he guaranteed the output, and if I had the money. If you do this deal protect yourself from all angles...I now you are smart but I would be bumbed if you were to get ripped off. Remember prices on BR burners will continue to tumble.

amkdeath, the battery for my drill is shot. So I took the next best route. But I do agree with what you are saying about space. Also I don't care what it looks like on the inside either..lol. I am not worried about making it look pretty. You will love the heatsink.... ;)

I saw a post by member02 and he said the spring from the aixiz module ruined his open can. Maybe he wasn't careful when he put the spring in, or maybe it got cockeyed or something as he was focusing. So be careful about that. Here is the link to the thread he posted in along with some great pics of the LG heatsink...lol

If using a meredith module this is of no concern.

Oh man...that would suck. It's a terrible feeling when your that close, and you overlook just one little thing, or one little mechanical mishap. I know that feeling. Good looking out Gazoo! Thanks for spreading the word...
Jay

yea that must suck...

BTW jayrob I just PM'ed you, I got the money for the heatsink.

I finished all final modifications to the MXDL, and its ready to go! I am currently just burning things while holding the module by hand, everything else is soldered, in, isolated, and ready to go, just need that heatsink!

regards,

amk

Well, if it is already soldered up, then I will go ahead and drill it out so that the AixiZ moudle can just slide in place. I will include a set screw. You will have to find the correct Allen wrench though. I will make a note of the size wrench you will need.

how would it have been without having to slide it in?

and if its too much troubble, I could just desolder it....

amk, read the 1st post on this page:
http://www.laserpointerforums.com/forums/YaBB.pl?num=1201570557/15

A couple of tips for you:

1. I usually cut the back of the module off some, so that it doesn't stick out past the heatsink.
Take a good look at the picture too. That module is 'pressed' into the heatsink. The one I just finished making you, has a set screw. You will not need to press it in. You will need a 1.5mm Allen wrench.

2. The MXDL is a little tight on room (inside) using the heatsink, but there is enough. You just have to be careful and make sure your components are not going to smash into each other when you set the heatsink in place.

I'll send it off tomorrow. Let me know how you like it...

nice man, Should I use some CPU heatsink cream around the module to make sure it comes in contact with the whole heatsink, and that there are no air pockets?

and I didnt think you'd get it done that fast thanks man!

Took me about 45 minutes. I am not using any compound on my Meredith, but a little Arctic Silver compound wouldn't hurt...

Here is a lousy pic of mine taken with a vga phone cam...lol Number one is done. Parts are on the way for number 2.

oh and I forgot to say, thanks to you the monk for the diode!! [smiley=tekst-toppie.gif]

(LOL and sorry for outbidding you on ebay for the DPM)

I bought a glass lens from drL an hour ago, IM SO EXCITED!

regards,

amk

P.S. I just had a tooth (#28) removed, it was like 3cm long, and the anisthetic had only partially numbed my cheeks, I felt the whoe thing :o :'( :'( >:( :o
it still hurts!!!!

Amk...sorry about your tooth. That happened to me once too when I was having a filling replaced. It was quite painful.

I just wanted to add that the output of my first MXDL 300 is "only" 215mw's using CR123 batteries. It is drawing around 350ma's. This is further evidence the CR123's have a rapid drop in voltage, and the 317 drops out of regulation. With RCR123's this will not be a problem. I have RCR123's on the way from AW and a charger on the way from DX.

I though that were biding on my DPM, ;D I was thinking about PM you to BACK OFF from my bid. ;D It’s all Knimrod’s fault, ;D the seller raises the price on the sensor head from $25 to $35, and now the DPM is hard to get. Sorry to hear about your tooth. You don’t need anesthetic to stop the pain all you need is a lot of Red Beam. :P

Regards,
TheMonk
