Let me just point out one small thing. I shall highlight the pertinent part in red and then green

Louisville, Ky. (WHAS11) - An LMPD helicopter was forced to land after someone pointed a laser in its direction, which temporarily blinded the pilot.

It happened around 1:30 a.m. Thursday near I-65. The pilot was flying over the downtown area at the time.

Four suspects were arrested and charged with 1st degree wanton endangerment and fleeing and evading arrest.
They have been identified as 25-year-old Brian Enlow, 21-year-old Joy McElwain, 29-year-old Steven Springer III and 18-year-old Jason A. Hill.

Police say that the LMPD helicopter was assisting in a traffic stop when the suspects pointed and green laser in to the cockpit, blinding the pilot.

The chopper followed the suspect vehicle into Jeffersonville, Indiana where the suspects ditched the car and fled on foot. They were all captured with the help of a Jeffersonville Police Canine Unit a short time later.

Police say that pointing lasers at aircraft is very dangerous and considered a very serious crime.
One of the suspects has not waived extradition. He is being held in Harrison County on unrelated charges.
WHAS11 News is told that federal authorities may consider charging the suspects with a federal crime as well.

It looks more like someone (the media? the police?) is exaggerating and hyping this into something that it was not

It's like a "Transformer" . . . . .

Peace,
dave

Could it have been that the laser pointer incident was after it had already followed the car to Jeffersonville and then it landed there?

For those not familiar with the area: Jeff, IN is the next exit on I65 north past downtown Louisville. It's just right across the river in southern Indiana.

From the comments it sounds like this same group of idiots were flashing drivers in the downtown area
before deciding to take on a police copter.

I doubt the pilot's vision was actually damaged by the event The original version of this article let out the word temporary. Most likely it just messed with his/ her vision because it was a bright light in an otherwise darkened cockpit. However it was still very stupid and the more of these idiots are out there the more issues we may see in the form of more laws and harassment for safe use if lasers.

I would love to provide that chick with a conjugal visit. She is pretty darn hot IMO.

Its a double sided coin. We promote, sell, import, and export high power lasers here to any n00b who wants one. Since I've joined there has been 12,000 new members, and countless guests.
Not every new laser fan or hobbyist is a "n00b" looking to buy a sweet high powered laser to fuck with people. Most of the people with these lasers get cheap chinese green ones from DX or other various websites, when people are googling where to buy green lasers from I don't think this forum is the first place that comes up.

You completely missed my point. I know all that. Been into the hobby for over 2 years now. My point is that people here act surprised, an appalled, but have no issue selling a high power lasers to anyone who wants one. Or recommending them to web sites that will send lasers no matter what the law is. We are, by far, not innocent in some of these morons actions.

I usually only take my lasers out when I go camping, or outdoor volunteer events. On night I pulled one out and started to wave it around. These college kids were all impressed, and asked me if I would sell it. Then they ask if it can used to blind people. :yabbem: My heart sank. Long story short I was offered $400 for my 1.1W 445nm Egh laser and I turned it down flat. Easily more than $150 over what is was worth. I'm disabled, and really could use the money. My neighbor also wanted one for "self defense", I turned him down too. I've only sold 2 lasers, and they both went to older men, who worked in a technical field.

There is an old saying that if you're not part of the solution, you're part of the problem.

I know I did, I'm dumb and ignore my post. Was upset at something else, posted without thinking it through and yeah. Just ignore it.

It's such a shame that such a hot girl did something like this :(

Come on... she's not that hot:

Would I pick her up in a bar, absolutely:o but she's no model, 6 on a 10 scale, maybe 6.5 imo.

Keep in mind this is a police mug shot. If she can look hot in a mugshot she must be very hot normally. Even in the mugshot I'd give her a 7 of 10

Meh, no body shot, so can't go that far:p

Besides the rating scale is different for different people, for example I have a friend who prefers larger girls... his 10 is my 3:o

I couldn't agree with you more TJ. I'm glad I'm not the only one that has had to turn down some serious $$$ for the sake of others inability to responsibly operate a laser, and trust me I could really use the money, wife and kid to support with a second baby on the way!
I have given several demonstrations in the community college physics lab and in engineering classes and they all end with half a dozen people wanting me to build them "burning" lasers. I'm glad to see people taking interest but let’s face it, most people probably aren't responsible enough to operate any laser over 5mw, if that.
Keep on keepin' it real TJ:beer:
