Morons force a helicopter to land with green laser

These bastards are the reason of all the laser laws going around now....

IMO they would be better blinding themselves

Read on down the page, into the comments section. Some stupidity there, too, from some guy who claims that the pilot "could NOT have possibly been blinded". Sheesh....

Then there is this comment; apparantly those individuals were trying to laser cars in traffic earlier:

Wow! These are the same LAME individuals who were on top of the parking garage at Kindred Hospital at 1313 Saint Anthony Place, off of East Broadway in Louisville on June 27-28th around 11:30-12:15am. I was coming back from the Krogers on Bardstown road and the next thing I knew they flashed the green laser in my eyes while I was driving, and I almost hit a TARC bus and another car. The feeling I got from the laser being pointed at me was so weird. I could barely see. When I pulled over to call police, they fled in a gold or silver Toyota "limited edition" truck. In the process of giving a discription, I lost my wallet in the parking lot and I believe one of them picked it up. Little do they know, I was able to get a good discription of one of them (whose face pic is posted above) and I also got the license plate number. Also...there are MORE individuals involved. There were FOUR cars. I will be filing charges tomorrow. I hope others cone forth to report their criminal actions.

Its a double sided coin. We promote, sell, import, and export high power lasers here to any n00b who wants one. Since I've joined there has been 12,000 new members, and countless guests.

There seems to be no shortage of morons standing in line to get themselves nailed for this offense. To bad they didn't blind themselves first.

Hopefully the feds will file federal charges against them. A felony charge would really hurt and they deserve it!

There is suppose to be a new law saying that you can be charged an $11K fine for using a laser to interfere with aircraft.

...Would be lovely if they were faced with 11k in civil fines to boot.

I just don't get morons like these guys. Why do something so obviously wrong/bad?

Hopefully they will get to spend plenty of quality time with guys name bubba.

LMAO - TJ you beat me to it!

And *I'M* one of them!

(oops... hehehe)

^^^There is a crucial difference, you use the gooey mass located inside your cranial cavity.

EDIT: I'm willing to bet these four will plead not guilty, and downplay doing this to sheer ignorance.

"Your honor I had no idea that this was dangerous, I would never do anything to hurt anyone." Sob Sob, Sniffle, Crocodile tear.

What drives me insane is how often ignorance, and often times ignorance born of arrogance, is accepted as an actual excuse.

Don't mean to hijack but I was down in atlantic city and they sell green lasers there. Every jackass down there has one, and I would sit on a window sill inside my hotel and look out and see a green beam graze across the night sky. It'd be beautiful if it wasn't right into windows on other hotels. When I use my green 5mw lasers around others for astronomy, they always ask if I got it down in Atlantic City, as if that was the ONLY place you could buy them. And they go for $60 there...

^^^Not just AC. A lot of boardwalks are having the same exact problem. There was an article only a few weeks back about a guy using a laser from a boardwalk pointing and a coast guard helicopter. Bought the laser right there as well.

Lasers are very cool toys and people come to AC and boardwalks in general to spend and have fun. I'm willing to bet plenty of these lasers are also somewhat overspec... but with humidity by the ocean, and at night, even 5mW should be visible.

Until local ordinances are in place so prevent the sales, the stores will keep selling, considering the profits, they'd be crazy not to.

Not sure how I feel about the situation... more education would be the silver bullet to solve the problem, but that's never gonna happen:undecided:

One of them was 29 years old! WTF

At least children are...children and they dont realize the penalties of their actions but the youngest one of the 4 was 18 and the rest were over 21. Thats unbelievable. Before looking at the link I assumed they were 4 high school kids.

They LOOK like Moronic losers... not a usable brain cell
between then... IMO
Hope they are made examples of using the new Federal
Laws...

Ignorance of the law and being too stooopid to use common
sense is not a defense....

I was pretty surprised at the age as well. I know age isn't a limit to stupidity but I still expected these guys to be much younger.

Ignorance of the law?

I'd have thought it would have been common sense not to shine an intense light source of any kind, be it a laser pointer or a high powered flashlight at anyone operating machinery, especially flying things.

seems these fools dont have any of that common sense stuff to go between them, or they wouldn't be facing an 11K fine, and probably gaol time for shooting a pointer at a helicopter.

What if the pilot had no where (e.g. middle of suburbia) to do his emergency landing? Could have ended up very ugly.

Throw the book at them :P
