Micro-Drive laser driver by rkcstr

Re: Micro-Driver laser driver *NOW ADJUSTABLE*

Would I be able to order some kits before you head out?

Re: Micro-Driver laser driver *NOW ADJUSTABLE*

Sure, I'm going to try to finish up any orders I get up until this Friday.

Re: Micro-Driver laser driver *NOW ADJUSTABLE*

ok i got the drivers partially assembled but which resistors am i supposed to use? the 8.2 ohm should be for red and the 75ohm for br?

p.s. nice drivers by the way rckstr ;)

Re: Micro-Driver laser driver *NOW ADJUSTABLE*

You just ordered full range kits, right?  There shouldn't be any 8.2ohm resistors, just 75 and 2.7. And, you got the part layout diagram I sent, right?  That should tell you where to put them, with the 2.7 being the series resistor and 75 the parallel resistor.

I finished up the full instructions too, but I need to post them yet, which I'll have to do when I get home from work.

Re: Micro-Driver laser driver *NOW ADJUSTABLE*

Thaks for the emails rkcstr. Can't wait for the package to show up :)

No problem ;)

Keep an eye out for an email that will have the new instructions for assembly and usage!  I'm going to try to get them all finished tonight.

EDIT: All instructions have been updated except for the fixed-value driver assembly instructions (should be finished tomorrow).  You can download them through my website.  Remember, it's changed to http://rkcstr.googlepages.com/LPF .  Don't forget the LPF at the end!

Re: Micro-Driver laser driver *NOW ADJUSTABLE*

Thanks for the fast service! I already got my package. ;D

Great!

Also, I'm back from my out-of-town-ness, so I'll be getting started on orders, but I have a lot, so I appreciate your patience!

If you want, I can try to give an estimated ship date, but I can't guarantee any particular day. I'll do my best to get orders out ASAP.

Thanks!

why isnt this a sticky?
You read my mind! If JayRob's heatsinks are a sticky this should be stickied as well. These drivers have made the DIY laser hobby a LOT easier.

I'm going to PM c0ld about this one.

Re: Micro-Driver laser driver *NOW ADJUSTABLE*

I agree as to sticky status -- Dr Lava's drivers should be stickied too

my 2 cents

LOLOLOL ;D ;D

yea this should definitely be stickyed, I mean, everyone loves micro drives!!

Re: Micro-Driver laser driver *NOW ADJUSTABLE*

LOL, sticky status would make it easier for me to find my own thread too :)

And, I was wondering if anyone would actually see that, thanks AMK. Guess that means I should actually update it ;D

EDIT: Yay! I'm sticky (lol)!

Re: Micro-Driver laser driver *NOW ADJUSTABLE*

Whew, just logged all of my orders from last week and the past couple days and I have over 70 drivers ordered along with some test loads and whatnot!

So, I'm going to be busy working on all of these this week. Also, that means I need to order more parts (already)! I currently have enough for ~25 more, so I'm hoping that tides me over until I get more parts, which I'll be ordering in the next day or so.

Re: Micro-Driver laser driver *NOW ADJUSTABLE*

lol good side job?

It was DDL drivers, then these, I wonder what will come next... (of course there are lava drives for those rich kids out there ;D ;D )

anyhow, cant wait for my next one, these are so good for the PHR's cause every one is so different, so you can adjust.

Hey, just a quick question,

I wanted to throw together a quick driver for my newly harvested PHR, so I took one of the 400mA drivers you sent me WAAAAAAY back for preliminary testing (back in the stone age ;D ) (these ones didnt have the extra caps and goodies yet ;D ) anyhow, I took off three of the 12.4 Resistors, so there is one left. I hooked it up (unfortunately DMM is broken ATM, so I had to use math and hope I didnt kill the diode ;D ) and its putting out 60mW. Did I do my math correctly? one of the 12R4's should put out 98mA or so, (isnt that what you use in your preset non adjustable 100mA units?)

anyways, quick question,

amk

Re: Micro-Driver laser driver *NOW ADJUSTABLE*

haha, yeah, it is a decent side job since my actual one pays hardly anything ($9/hr).  Selling these helped me pay my rent this month  :D

Dunno what will come next.  I'm not sure how long I'll continue to sell them because of school as I may be getting busy, at least come 2009, then I won't have much spare time at all.

I would like to make something more efficient and I like the design woop, airy52 and toked323 were working on, though I know woop wanted his to be a sort of open source driver, though I'm not sure a lot of people would be able to make it themself. Also, a sepic design, which I know IgorT has been making one for his lasers, though the parts cost is kinda high, probably along the lines of the lavadrive.

Anyway, for the driver you have, a 12.4ohm should put out about 100mA, but the previous design may have some slight drop in current due to oscillation (its cleaned up by the output cap), so the output may possibly be dropping to slightly above 90mA, which 60mW sounds reasonable. I have a diode that put out about 65-70mW at 100mA but puts out 110mW at 125mA, so its not quite linear.
