Okay, I'm intrigued. How do you do this? Just wrap the diode in indium foil, press into the host like that, and then hit it with a soldering iron to melt it all together?
 
yeah wrap it around the diode is the best, but you have to remember that the diode as it's inserted into the pocket will need to be on the sides of the diode. This will make is so that there is a nice even layer of indium around the diode. As far as heating it up, you needn't worry about it. As the diode gets fired up, the heat generated by the laser diode is going to melt the indium where it contacts the diode and melt it as needed. I use these mostly for C-mount laser diodes though and those just sit under the diode between the diode and mount. The heat from the diode melts the indium and it makes a great connection between diode and heatsink.
 
Yeah, there are plenty of great technical uses for indium in the laser world. I use it more often than weekly in making laser diodes. This was posted exactly once, in the proper section no less. There is nothing spammy about this post.

To certain haters drinkin' the haterade: Just because you don't know what something can be or is used for, doesn't mean that others don't have a use for it. And as a matter of fact, despite your assumption, some people on this forum do make laser diodes.

I am interested, a piece to try it out... however, are you saying that the 0.1x100x100mm piece will cost me USD32/pc FOB China + USD35 for TNT courier fee + USD25 for banking charge = $ 92.00???!! :huh: That is really expensive! I hope I am not reading it correctly. :yabbem:

If you just need 1pc, I am sorry to say that you have to pay the international courier fee USD35, or we will lose our money to do this. Of course, if you can get lower courier fee, you can give us your courier account like TNT, DHL, Fedex, we can send it to you with freight collect. That is no problem.
Meanwhile, as what I mentioned above, if you pay through Western Union, you don't need pay USD25 for banking charge. Therefore, the total amount will be USD32+USD35=USD67. Please kindly note it.
Of course, it is not cost-effection for only 1pc, coz you need pay international courier fee. However, if your quantity is 10pcs, we can deliver you with free shipping. I appreciate you can understand it.
