Make my choice:)

I'd go 589!!! My rgb projector can do various yellows and orange but it does not compare.. also people that don't care for lasers love my 589.

Some people don't care for lasers?!?!? I know right.. crazy

I should have my JL 1w 650 next week. I also ordered a 10x BE with it. I'll let you know what I think of it. That 589 spartan is tempting.

I'm really interested in what diode jetlasers used. I think 1 watt of 675nm or something even deeper would be really cool.

Hi CL,
675nm is a lot deeper red than others, i have a custom C Mount labby that Angelos ( Lazeerer ) made for me before going underground to a certain extent. It hits around 675 to 678nm its a deep crimson color.. Enjoy buddy

Rich:)

Go for the yellow! since you already have a nice green, blue and red, all high power, 589 sure looks nice :D My personal next goal will probably be a high power green, but 500$ is just too crazy for me. ahhh i need more monies :undecided:

My green cost <$300. I also just bought a 600mW 532nm module for $200 and I'll be adding that to a custom host that I currently have:D Greens don't have to be super expensive:p

I've been thinking about one of those wavelengths for a bit as well. What power is yours?

so question time. For those of you that own or are experienced with 589s.

- Where is the best place to get one?
-If I got it used what should I do to check for quality and possible damage?
-What power level will get me a good beam but still keep it lower priced?(If I have to go 50mW+ I definitely will.)
-do 589s degrade over time? Should I expect any power loss?
- What can I do to make sure that it stays in the best possible condition for the longest possible time?

If you can answer any of these I'll be super grateful. This is a large chunk of money here and I don't want it to go to waste:)

Dragon lasers is good my spartan 50mw gets 62mw peak i had it since my 21st birthday and it rolled off my bed last month and landed 3 feet on not my rug but hardwood floor. I was like NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO but it worked and LPMed fine. Mine uses 1.89amps. 30mw should get you a good beam mine is visible in room lit by 2 35w 6500k CFLs it also has amazing divergence I hit a cloud. the only damage mine has is the rubber on the switch being off.

Thank you:) I assume it uses AAA batteries then?

I am getting pretty excited about this:D

I saw that some people have 80mW versions? Any idea where they got those?

I would recommend the 589nm Spartan. While lacking in power compared to the other options, it makes up for it in the uniqueness and beauty of the color. It's like a sparkling beam of gold.

Regarding 675nm, it's really not bright at all. Here's ~200mW of 671nm next to 500mW of 532nm and 1W of 445nm. With smoke IIRC.

And with green and blue combined, again, with smoke IIRC:

DashApple ... if you see this, can you confirm power of that 671? I'm only 95% sure it was 200mW. It's the one I bought from you back in 2011 or 2012...

I'd personally go for 589 or 561 if you're wanting rare wavelengths. Or see if you can track down a 488nm diode (or go the fun way and get an Argon Ion)... :D

Hmmmmm So it's a little better than I expected I guess. I was thinking... If not 1W of 650 or however much of 670+-5, what about those c-mount 4W 650s? Those look pretty sweet and I was just interested in seeing if it could be fit into a handheld:D Maybe I'll tackle that project in the future:)

This 589nm has that unique look alot of people like it. if you use the o-like blue googles you see ir florescence on stuff like wood as it blocks 589.
