That waveplate is perfect.
Assuming the lowest value for the output power of the NUBM44's being 7W, then the AR window version will output at least 13.2W.
That's a lot of power combined into a single beam. :eek:

You could expect anything from 12.8W to 15.1W , based on 6.8-8W for each diode.

I have 3 brand new NUBM44's pressed into 12mm modules with wires attached otherwise I would put 1 into a 20mm module and play with the other build, anyway I tested all 3 and they range ( with a 3 element ) from 5.2 to 5.4 watts and that put's the power with a G2 around 7w, I was driving them at 4.5amps.

No, I don't have a diode extractor.

If the nubm44 with G2 is doing 7000mw and I switch to a 3 element I would lose another 25% as the G2 is 95% efficient and 3 element is 70%.....right, roughly anyway.

So 7000 - 25% would be 1750 that's 5250 and that's right where there at, I believe they are all nubm44-V-2 and V-2's may be running as much as 1w higher, so 7000mw is reasonable, has anyone else tested 1 recently ?

I was thinking about the amount of waste heat this will generate. It will be very significant and in a handheld will most likely limit you run time drastically. These put out more heat than optical power by by a factor of three, if I'm not mistaken. The switch for each diode is probably a very good idea. Good luck.

Yep, it will get warm faster than a single diode build.

I made a HH with 3 x ndb7875's @ 2.4a each and I was surprised at how warm it became in about 90 seconds and it had a large heat sink.

Also we will need to get our diode module issue worked out before committing to a plan, we may want to have some diode modules made to tight tolerances that we can rely on.

All my spare nubm44's are in 12mm modules, I have been waiting for a diode in a 20mm module and also will get a 20mm to 12mm from Rich next week.

Before you order the dual housing we need to decide on the module and know it's height, I have this ordered and wait to see how well the diode aligns height wise when the diode is orientated for use with the c-lenses : https://www.ebay.com/itm/Brass-9mm-...&itm=232202546073&_trksid=p5713.c100042.m2062


We may want to build the entire diode and optics set up on a 1/4 inch thick length of aluminum that can be adjusted for it's final mounting position in the HH host's heat sink, or design the host's optics flat around those mounts/modules. I don't know that we want to use round modules, I wanted to finish the 1st single diode unit 1st but I am waiting for parts, I did just order a 44 diode from another seller and expect it soon although the module is coming from down under and may take a week.

Yes but the exit hole at the end of the cylindrical insert milled for the optics is a specific height above the bed, depending on the mount/module you may want to adjust the insert dia. and bed height, as they need to match.

I think....you will not get much smaller design ...or....well....not without custom mounts....or just much, much more painful to align !!

YEP, the double adjustable mirror set will work, it will lift and straighten.

Alaskan it could be done with 2 x mirrors that will adjust on both axis, they just need to be attached in basically the right positions so their range of adjustment will do the job, it would be a fit then fasten operation.

Ok I see the cube, but with 2 mirrors we could fix any misalignment such as in the 1st build, mirror #1 redirects the beam 90 degrees but also aims it upward and mirror #2 redirects 90 degrees but also levels the beam, this way you can change vertical, horizontal and beam height using 2 mirrors, your laser would mount off center but your beam would exit dead center and aligned.

This is another neat project, I am going to grab one of the single diode with correction chamber hosts from the other project...considering one of these as well.

If I do, I'm thinking of a dual m07 or m01, regardless - love the concept and appreciate the brains and labor behind it.

Also really enjoyed the mental image of RCB holding a 44 in each hand, lasing the poo out of anything in it's way... something I'd enjoy seeing even more in person!!

In our 1st build we need to align the beam that may exit our diode module misaligned, so using 2 mirrors we can adjust for vertical, horizontal and beam height.

Mirror #1 redirects the beam 90 degrees but also aims it upward and mirror #2 redirects 90 degrees but also levels the beam, this way you can change vertical, horizontal and beam height using 2 mirrors, your laser would mount off center but your beam would exit dead center and aligned.

Mirrors must adjust on both axis.

It hurts me to think about a two mirror system with the diodes at different levels. It doesn't seems as easy to align as one might think. Could be even more complex. If you could put them into modules that could be adjusted for rotation, pitch and yaw, it would likely be easier. Just my thoughts on this.

Yes, I think for this 2 x 44 build that using the square mounts/modules and this arrangement would be the way to go, that's mirror bottom and cube top, only question is do we want a rotator/WP or a + shaped beam ? NEVERMIND, we MUST use a rotator/WP to use the C-lens pair.

That also means the bottom laser diode must be mounted 90 degrees, in the square mount the diode will sit with pins horizontal, top module the diode will sit with pins vertical.

Yep, have to have a half wave plate to combine the two and still use the cylinder lenses. That alone is complex.

I know this looks like fun, and it will be, but do we want to tackle the 1st build 1st ? If Monday or so Rich can make our 20 to 12mm heat sinks with driver shelf we can then assemble our existing hosts and see how well the 12mm round modules work before deciding on round or square for the 2 x 44 builds.
