This thread is for members who want to participate in a group build with hosts being sourced through member Alaskan, the build is a dual nubm44 PBS combined and corrected via 6x cyl pair.

Please share your ideas and expertise to make this project a success, if you want a host PM Alaskan.

Here is a very basic concept image

Wow, first thing though. This will be undoubtedly expensive. Two NUBM44's, a high reflector, quarter waveplate, high power handling pbs, cylinder pair and AR window + custom host = $$$
The other, this will be huge, but I no doubt want to see them made. :p
I do love these community hosts though, it is great to see members coming together to design and construct custom hosts.
Good call on 26650's, this thing is going to drain power fast. And I know Alaskan loves fins, but you'll definitely need them on this host. That's a lot of heat to drain away.
I will be following, and will help wherever I can.

Edit: Here are some part options and cost.

NUBM44 - $160 (2x $80) DTR

>98% 400-700nm Mirror - $5.68 https://www.ebay.com/itm/1X-Reflector-Reflective-Mirror-Lens-RGB-400nm-700nm-Blue-Green-Red-Visible-Laser/372235166690?hash=item56aaf1e3e2%3Ag%3ASAAAAOSwtypaliAg&_sacat=0&_nkw=laser+mirror+visible&_from=R40&rt=nc&LH_TitleDesc=0%7C0

1/2 Waveplate - $69 https://optlasers.com/rotators/455-nm-wave-rotator-plate-90-with-brass-mount

PBS - $2.78 https://www.ebay.com/itm/Prism-Laser-Beam-Combine-Cube-Prism-Mirror-for-405nm-450nm-Blue-Laser-Diode-5W/282862528354?hash=item41dbeba762&_sacat=0&_nkw=laser+pbs&_from=R40&rt=nc&_trksid=p2334524.m570.l1313.TR0.TRC0.A0.H0.Xlaser+pbs.TRS1&LH_TitleDesc=0

unable to find a pbs at this time that could handle 140-160W/cm2 @450nm. I'm hoping a cheap 445nm pbs will be sufficient.

6x Cylinder pair- $75 with brass mount Optlasers https://optlasers.com/cylindrical-lenses/cylindrical-lenses-6x-with-brass-mount?search_query=6x+cylindrical&results=11

AR Window 400-700nm - $5.35 (2pk) https://www.ebay.com/itm/2pcs-400nm-600nm-Coated-Glass-Lens-Waterproof-12x1-8mm-Laser-Plane-Window-Lens/263326897915?hash=item3d4f8196fb%3Ag%3AEF0AAOSwvfZaDTxz&_sacat=0&_nkw=AR+coated+450nm+laser+window&_from=R40&rt=nc&_trksid=m570.l1313&clk_rvr_id=1599976111955&afsrc=1&rmvSB=true

Sanwu 3.3x BE - $55 https://www.sanwulasers.com/product/x3beamexpander

Subtotal w/o BE (inc AR window)- $312.13
Subtotal with BE (exc AR window)- $361.78

Chris, this project is completely different than your "LPF member designed host" project, correct?

That could be a good idea, as ~13W is a lot of power straight up. Even 7W+ is a lot to handle.
Good idea on the expander, and ar window isn't necessarily needed. That would knock off some of the price and issues sourcing them.

Would you have the brass mounts for the 6x?

I've always found that the NUBM44 has it's own unique duty cycle. Not due to heat, but due to how long you can run it without melting your beam stops and setting things alight. :p

very interesting project,i'm still noob on correction optics and this can turn out a very nice and unique tutorial. will you use separate drivers for each diode or you will run diodes in series with a boost driver?

Yes, this is a separate project. :)

@ Chris : If you want to use a 3.3XBE you will have to use Sanwu G2 primary lenses and even then if we cube combine and then use the 6X pair the beam may already have diverged too much, I don't know as I have not combined 44's via PBS yet, also you could use a 6X pair for each laser first thing and them combine the less divergent beams, but I am not sure how much of a difference it will make in the beam width, just remember the size of the 3.3XBE inlet.

Updated the list. So we have two options, one with the beam expander but no ar window, or one w/o BE but includes a AR window.
Also would you need the brass mount for the 6x cylindrical set? As it differs in cost by $15.

I am open to whatever everyone wants to do, I just put out a basic idea, we can change it and make it better, I wish we had access to a wider 5XBE like the Thorlabs 5X, but it's 480.00 and that's about twice what I would be willing to spend on it.

Good points. How about a custom expander? With a waveplate at least we won't have to worry about a + shaped beam which will make things a lot easier.

I said " rotator " in my drawing, same thing as a waveplate or so I thought.

Yes it should be fun, I often hold a corrected 44 in each hand and converge at my target, it can be a challenge to hold steady and it's easy to mix up which spot is which, so having the beams combined will be sweet.
