Here is a quickly re-designed bottom banner

I think that if your going to use those, just replacing the one on the top with that would be fine, that would give it a kind of contained feeling but that's just me personally..

The bottom one was only put in place because Avery liked the design (it was basically my original design for the logo; there is a thread where you can look at it) and wanted to incorporate it into the forums, but it wouldn't fit at the top because it is over 30 pixels in height. There was no bottom logo before that. I ended up modifying that logo into the one that you see at the top by trying to follow the design of it.

Disclaimer: I am not a professional graphic designer. I am doing this because I like to design in photoshop for my own pleasure on my own time (when I have it). And I would love to help out the forum in anyway that I can, and I thought this would be a good challenge. I get no compensation for my work (but if you would like to, I'm not opposed :p as I am a poor college student trying to buy lasers :beer:).

I am a designer, and I definitely understand where you are coming from. I will offer a redesign, but since it is so new I wanted to wait a little while and let it get some wear to it before I proposed a change, so as to try to not hurt anyone's feelings especially yours Stin.

It's fine though (not super amazing, but fine considering), the banner and logo serve their purpose, since most people here are left brained (analytical) it doesn't need to be super flashy, and it's not like that's what draws people to LPF in the first place (it's the knowledge), but what I meant was to just take the one from post #17 adjust and resize it, use it as a top banner and you can keep the bottom one (I'd probably suggest adjusting the beams to match but not necessary).

Causing a contained//encompassed feeling like so.

Is it possible to migrate the white background of the banner to a more soft neutral color? Like a grey or a light blue?

Thing is, some of use the light colored forum skin because its easier on the eyes. (Less contrast)

With the white background on the white background... it looks very strange. Like its incomplete.

Here's what my screen looks like:
 
Hmmm... they aren't even incorporated on the white version anyway, so I guess I can use separate images. I'll do that later tonight. Thanks for pointing it out

dang this is getting complicated. I hadn't thought about if someone was using the white background. I like the top one in post #17. accurate or not, when the beams begin un-parallel and then are made parallel by the prism there may be some symbolism. BOOOO 30 pixels

Beams before prism represent each of us individually, prism is the forum, and the parallel beams are all of us in a common path and goal, which is naturally, safety, knowledge, and fun. and science

The outline is a good compromise. Really good of you to put all this effort out for the community Stin! Good Man :beer:

is going to need to be the white letter with black outline if you want it to show up on both the black and white styles

They seems to be two separate images. So I think I can have different options for the two different layouts, so that's good!

If you switch to the white version it has a different logo

if you switch to default then there is no logo designed by you, its a completely different layout so IMO no need to change the color since it was never added to that layout style
 
Might as well have consistency. And plus it was requested so I took a shot at it.
 
question to everyone; when you first came to this site what was the layout style? Darkshadow V5 (black) or default (white)? i think black is really the default and almost no one uses the white style.
