No idea how odd this situation is but I have a pretty powerful 445nm 2.3W laser with an aluminum body and copper heat sink. Out front is the lens and focusing barrel (?) but where the barrel meets the heat sink, it's loose. It should be firm in place but I'm guessing due to the heat, the glue wore off over time. Wondering what the best course of action would be, whether it's thermal paste or a specific type of glue? I'm pretty noobish, so any help is appreciated. TIA.

Are you talking about the laser module is loose in the heat sink?

I believe he means the lens is wobbly in the module, which is normal and solved by teflon tape and a lens spring.

Otherwise its just tightening the set screw in the heat sink

I'll take a picture, it'll be easier.

Yeah if It's the lens just use Teflon tape.

if the module is loose and it has a set screw just tighten it up.
If it doesn't I would use something like Arctic Silver.

Module is loose from heat sink. Tighten the set screw in thr heat sink and dont use it until its pushed back ib and tightened

The set screw is in the side of the heatsink. Unscrew the steal ring, you may see the set screw. If not, CAREFULLY pull the heatsink out a little, you should see the screw.

It's towards the front of the heatsink or in the middle?

That's not glue, it's thermal compound. That doesn't hold the module in, it helps the heat get out. The set screw is what holds the module in the heatsink.

Your heat sink ......the hole is where the set screw is. The "glue" is thermal paste as stated above......push the module back into the heatsink and clean the excess paste that slides out.

I unscrewed the one closest to the lens and I do see that hole you mentioned, but there isn't a screw in there. Is there supposed to be?
