I couldn't pass it up.... I saw it sitting there with 7 days left and snatched it up.... :o

"As a side note, the tube produces significant amounts of UV light as well, and this can cause cataracts and skin damage if you allow yourelf to be exposed to it for too long."
Wtf? I never knew that argons produced UV.

And the catch is found.

Better buy some sunscreen with all the money you saved Gus :)

Not TRUE UV - it gets close to 405nm on one of the lines - and if it is mis-aligned, it will only put out 405nm...or close to it.

By the way - DAMNED nice find, Gus ! I bought one off of a former member - prolly the same model, but the idiot did not insure it, and screwed me outta my money - he packed it worse than I would have shipped a piece of cotton - and the box was flimsy as hell, too. Not to mention, the "make up" laser he supposedly sent me never arrived - yeah, I was taken to the cleaners on that deal... Super nice deal...I hate you ! LOL ! :D Naw - I am VERY happy for you...can I have it ? :P

I couldn't believe it. I was just showing my brother some cool laser stuff. I wanted to show him argons so I figured e-bay would be a good place to look. Then I see this little gem, which must have only been up for a few hours. I was thinking of bidding, but I knew if I did that someone would just 'buy it now' from under me. So I just decided to take the plunge and buy it. Hopefully I'll have it next week-ish and I'll be sure to post a lot of pictures!

Serendipity? Karma? Some goddess has decided you deserved a reward.

Nicely done.

Peace,
dave

Wikipedia quotes argon lasers being able to lase at 351nm, so there may still be the possibility of some UV coming out - albeit not real far into the UV range.

check SAM'S laser FAQ's....no offense to anyone who loves wiki - but I find it often stuffed to the gills with drivel that others have put in there just to have a laugh....I am not 100% sure, and you definitely could be right on that !

I don't even let my students use Wikipedia as a direct source. They can use it as a source to ""find"" original sources, but it is NOT adjudicated.

Peace,

I like the picture in that auction that shows the different wavelengths it puts out, look what he's using to split the beam up. That's the best thing those stupid AOL CDs can do. ;D

"unlike HeNe lasers, the energy level transitions that contribute to laser action come from ions of argon or krypton - atoms that have had 1 or 2 electrons stripped from their outer shells. Spectral lines at wavelengths less than 400 nm come from atoms that have had 2 electrons removed. Longer wavelengths come from singly ionized atoms. There are many possible transitions in the UV, visible, and IR portions of the spectrum." from Sam's Laser FAQ

Anyways still a very nice steal for the price
