List of Laser Diodes - 06/02/2021

I like this, but I have suggestions. I think we need to differentiate the model name of known diodes from whatever we as community decided to name others. Example: "BDR-209" is not the model of the actual diode, but it is what we sourced it from.

Power output and drive current should also be separated between the real spec, and what us enthusiasts like to over-drive them to.

Other useful info can be pinout, case polarity, and typical threshold current.

To share ideas, here is an example of how I keep track of my own diodes, both known and unknown:

I created a script (hosted on AWS, so no need to worry about reliability) that exports the shared doc (https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1pJDkajVwwFLJkBgATAAUGjEQtSqJv64aM1ayeo0-LJQ/edit#gid=0) to an image and then updates this image URL with it every 120 minutes: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/s/04t0fwyv0axbome/LaserList.png

Just attach the above image link to your original post(s) (as an image) and people will be able to freely view an up-to-date laser diode list without having to leave LPF!

PS: Make the shared Excel only allow everyone to have commenting permission, which they can use to create suggest mode suggestions. Then a team of moderators could approve/deny them in order to weed out the trolls

Dude... nice work!!! Exactly what I wanted to do! Hopefully op can do this in his originL post would be awesome ! Everything is better when theres teamwork :) thank you very much mr. Gazer :)

Love the commenting idea to weed out the trolls. Seems like there are some lerking around in this forum just like anywhere in life hehehe

Ill try updating the OP with the above attached image. As im sure all are aware, keeping lists updated over years is alot of time and effort, a community effort is way more efficiant, as long as the updated information is accurate!

It may be good enough for daring enthusiasts to put in a pointer for sort run times, but someone else may think they can run it like that indefinitely, thinking that number is the manufacture's spec. This is why manufacturer data need to be separated from community made data. "BDR-209" is the name of the drive where the diode is extracted from, NOT the official part number of the diode itself. Presenting it this way is misleading and can cause confusion.

IIRC its rating is 600mw.
 
If 900mW rating is good enough for DTR to list on his diode sales, then the success rate at that power has to be good. He thoroughly tests output power to get a safe operating point. Members have pushed these diodes past 1W, but at that point you are starting to risk killing it.
As explained to you before a couple of times. There is no data sheet easily obtainable. If one is found by someone it will be highly useful. For many years we have gone without.
 
With full respect DTR did not engineer that diode. If we don't want LPF look like a playpen where we invent official ratings, then we should keep those numbers separate. What you see on DTR's shop of what that diode can be pushed to, but it is not an indication of it's rating.
Someone has now written that it needs 900mA for 900mW, which doesn't agree with the measurements from DTR, so we already have wrong data by someone, which shows again how community made ratings is just a free-for-all.

Who here is 'inventing official ratings'? This is a hobbyist guide to laser diodes available. I think you are making this into something of far more importance than that. Also whilst I am fully aware our own testing is not to manufacturer standard. The testing is still real world and not done by one person only. I'm sure I've said this already. If you don't want to take community testing figures in consideration, and there is no spec sheet available. Do you want the diode omitted? Or should the entire specs for community tested diodes be formatted in italics so people are fully aware they are not manufacturer specs?
