Over time I have piled up so much different lenses that it would be nice to make a power output test. I have used all my available lenses in this test.
The laser for this test will be my 300mW 638nm Mitsubishi diode in the C6 host with a copper heatsink. The current was 700mA from two AMC7135 ic.

For each measurement I took 60 seconds read-out from my Bluefan LPM.
Between the test I switch the lens and take a 5 min cooldown.
All the test was done with a dot to infinity.

I am posting my data in a bar-graph. I hope this information helps us all learn more about lenses and start a good discussion over this subject.

With 445nm coated 9mm lens you are getting more output power than without any optics (first bar).

Either you figured out a perpetuum mobile machine, or your readings might be a bit off.

Still, nice reference point for different lenses.

The beam diverges so fast it hit the inner side of the module. A part of the beam is blocked by the module.
A lens with a very close focus point will capture all the light coming from the diode.
That is why the measurement of the power without a lens is lower than with a lens. :)

Yea I did a test on a 500mW 635 the other day with it and was pleasantly surprised as well. Much better than the G-2.

Very nice comparison chart by the way. Thanks for posting it.

Nice testing and graph...

But missing the best lens for red. The 650-G-1 lens assembly that I have is not only coated for red, but it is a different lens shape and design than any of the lenses you have listed.

I mention this because some people think it's just a 405-G-1 with a different coating, but it is not. It is not even the same diameter...

Nice work Blord! +1
Very imformative. I'm expecting a large payment to come in this week and I am looking at replacing the lenses on my diode lasers. I might have to grab a couple of the 9mm diodes.

Do the lenses fit in a standard Aixzis housing?

How many 9mm 445 diodes do you have left DTR?

The 650nm Ar G1 lens from jayrob is not in the test. It would be nice to compare it against the other lenses. I am sure it will surpass the 405-G1 lens.

I see from the graph that more elements glass means lesser output, no matter how good they are coated. Coating will improve the power but lesser glass in the beam path has far more impact on the poweroutput.

Of course this only applies to the red 638nm diode. Maybe the situation is different from a 445nm diode.

I have a Laserbee on the way, and I think I'll get at least one 9mm 445 and do some tests (assuming DTR still has some by the end of the week). I'm getting some 650-G1's and 405-G1's as well so I'll be interested in seeing how they all go at 405, 445, 638 and 650nm.

Becareful with 650-G1's on high-power 445nm. The AR coated could be damaged bij de laser. Other round is no problem. The 405-G-1 has no problem with high power reds.

I have to say Belgium is the smallest country I have ever been through.. this is about my only photo I took from there lol

I have plenty. You can grab them here.;)

Yes it would be nice to see the 650-G-1/2's added to the comparison. They should be about a 5-10% bump over the 405-G-1/2's with 635 diodes.

Becareful with 650-G1's on high-power 445nm. The AR coated could be damaged bij de laser. Other round is no problem. The 405-G-1 has no problem with high power reds.

Yep the 405-G-1/2's are coated all the way from 400nm to 600nm so they work with 405's, 445's and 635's but the 650-G-1/2's are 600nm to 800nm if I remember correctly which will reflect a huge percentage of 445/405 back at the diode possibly damaging it.

The between the standard g1, g1, and 650 G1 is really negligible, I mean it's there, but IIRC ~5%.

my testing of the 500mW diodes revealed a 40% increase in power from the Aixiz glass coated for 660nm to the 650-G-1!

That sound right. I measure 334mW for the 650nm AR 1-element glass. 334x1.4=468mW.
Better than the 405-G-1 and same ballpark as the lens from the 9mm diode.

650nm AR 1-element glass 334
405nm G1 lens 432
lens from 9mm 445nm diode 470

The spammers can't even put valid links in their posts!

All noted. I won't run the 650-G1's with my 445nm lasers. I'm currently in Shepparton with work, 175km / 110 miles away, but I've ordered a 9mm diode from DTR and will buy some 405 & 650 G1 lenses from Jayrob when I get home. I also have a laserbee on the way.

I'm very interested in seeing what the output is of my 500mW 638nm as Fiddy's looks heaps brighter in the pics (mine has a chinese lens with the long unthreaded extension section on it). I'm feeding 1400mA into it.
