Learn From Mistakes That Can Happen To Anybody...

Don't ever let alcohol, acetone, or any
other nonpolar solvent touch an acrylic
lens. Clean only using distilled white
vinegar and distilled water. Try only
flushing with the liquids first, then wipe
with cotton swaws only if absolutely
necessary. And use the good kind that come
sealed 2 in a package. You can get them
for free while waiting during any visit to
the doctor's office.

The chunk out of the center happened when I
removed it carefully using a hammer and
punch. But if you look around the edges
you can see that it is cloudy from being in
contact with isopropyl alcohol. I know
better than this. I have no idea what made
me reach for that bottle of alcohol, and
more than once.

:spank:

It makes a pretty good diffuser. The
output power went from 90mW to almost
nothing.

Removed it carefully? You've been watching Photonicinduction, haven't you?

Acrylic lenses are crap-o. They might be good enough in a pinch, but on the whole, glass is where it's at. Scratch resistance, solvent resistance, power flux resistance. More AR options? Yep. Acrylic lenses are place-holders and/or test articles at best, nothing more. Any operational laser, particularly an "EDC" (everyday carry) laser, will be best-off using glass optics.

Make sure all batteries are removed or if you have a second switch turn off the laser before cleaning it so you don't press the power button and hit your self in the hand :pop:

Buying lasers on ebay from sellers " we don't have the proper facilities to test" sold as is

I fried a NUBM06 diode a while ago, I always figured I overheated the diode while soldering it. Well today I was soldering some LED's under my cabinets and the strip lit up.. turns out my soldering iron was leaking voltage! 15v from tip to ground. Can that even be right?

This quote has been on my mind lately and was just all-too-fitting to not leave here. May you find justification in disappointing circumstances.

Grace and peace,

That a very good share because all too often people are only too keen to share only their triumphs
But life is book of highs and lows.

Don't work when you are tired. That is when I killed a driver by reversing the polarity.....did it one time with a diode I was testing on a bench supply without a driver. You really have to pay attention to what you are doing all the time.
