Lasers aren't the only dangerous thing thats fun to play with... try high Voltage!

There is barely any amperage here... tasers run off the same principal you see the high voltage spark but there's no real punch behind the high voltage kick. You also need to understand that the high voltage arc is not looking for ground! It is looking to complete the circuit with itself as it is an induced charge within a coil. Also notice how I said I work with one hand behind my back... even though it isn't enough current to kill me I still take precautions. Also this is not your typical voltage it is high frequency high voltage that is almost imperceptible when you're hit with it. When you do get hit there may be a burn but muscle damage (temporary) is more likely to occur... like one of the hardest work outs you've ever done.

Oh and another really interesting tidbit that I absolutely love about this thing.... It gives off ozone so it makes my room smell fresh lol... you don't want to keep it on too long as ozone can be dangerous... sweet nonetheless.

A tremendous understatement.
Try laying a piece of raw meat near to the ozone source and see how fast it starts to decay.

At least include the warnings from the original instructables source.

Not really. Yes ozone is not good for you, but it small amounts it can be harmless. Buildings use ozone generators all the time, after a fire, flood, ect.

exactly.... do you not think I researched and understand the dangers of making this thing before I did? It's not so easy that someone with no clue could put it together... Zappo I really don't know why you've got a strong aversion to my project... I know for a fact that anyone wanting to replicate what I have made will have to do a lot of reading and will at some point need to read over all the warnings and precautions that I did.... :wtf:

It's not that i have a strong aversion to your project.
I just think that readers who try this should be knowledgeable enough beforehand so as to make the informed decision whether they prefer to risk dying slowly little by little, or quick as a flash.
You can live after being blinded by a laser, but electrocution and the gas chamber are recognized methods of a quick and non-cruel end.
 
Once again, no one is arguing that ozone isnt bad for you. But the small amount the device puts outs isnt much of a concern. I guess if you sat in a closed closet and played with it for hours it would be an issue. A few seconds of play, in an open room, is not really as dangerous. He gave the appropriated warning.

This high voltage stuff still gives me the willys. Have an AL-80A Ham amplifier that needs constant work. Thats about 1700V at the capacitor bank and enuf current to kill you dead. Had the cap bank give a pop across my screwdriver once when i thought it was shorted....I almost ended up standing in a puddle of conductive urine to boot! :crackup:
 
Those 1W 445nm give me the willys lol... I seriously think all these people starting off with 445s are in for trouble... I would love to work up to it someday but holy moses those seem dangerous in a noobs hands... at least this HV stuff is fairly difficult to make... I know a lot of people who assume if you can see it and you avoid pointing it directly in your eyes you'd be fine... no clue of diffused light dangers or partial refraction... anyways this isn't the correct place to bring all that up.
 
I tried making a singing flyback by pumping audio into either pin 5 or 3 or 7 off the 555 I think. Didn't work very well, but it was a 30 minute project, and I did get sound.

With generating ozone yourself, usually you'll get extreme headaches before you suffocate, usually thats enough of a hint to leave the room or vent it out. It's produced fast enough to cause issues, but slow enough to give you a bit of a warning before you die.
 
Those little plasma globes that you buy and put on your desks give off about as much ozone as these things do... Ozone is the least of your worries in this case.... the point is if you can start to smell ozone it's time to turn it off for a little. As with everything use some common sense and you'll be alright.

If thats the price you feel I need to pay for attempting to pass on some common sense then so be it.
It's a bargain compared to enduring a health issue or injury.
