laser targeting and shooting down drones (new video)

These aren't diodes, but solid state fiber. Oddly enough, there is nothing "new" about these.

Look up the LaWS. It's owned by the Dep. of the Navy, and mounted to a destroyer I believe. There are videos of it incinerating a drone. These things operate in the kW to MW range. To say they are BEASTS would be an insult.

The LaWS :)

The laser used in this video was on a C-130 30,000 feet up. I can only imagine how fun it would be to burn stuff that far away.

So a M102 howitzer wasn't enough, they decided to put a laser on the AC-130!!!!

Good, I didn't like the sounds of those chem lasers they were talking 'bout using. are these just Nd: lasers, or is there something special about a fiber laser vs. solid state, besides the "flexibility" of the gain medium?
