I just found this on fleebay and was wondering if anyone could shed some light on this HUGE laser!

It looks very interesting and PERHAPS worth the drive to pick it up. (of course like some of my purchases I have NO IDEA what I would do with it:D)

Here is the link....pretty cool looking though.

It's either a laser or a nuclear device I think.........

It looks like it uses a typical ~5mW HeNe tube Laser and
HeNe Power supply.
The rest of it looks awfully heavy and I have no clue what
it was used for...

The tube itself does look pretty standard, as well with the PSU. It's the attachments that are interesting.
...and yes, it sure does look heavy!;)
....perhaps its just a huge lens..

That thing looks full of nice components, a HeNe with a lab psu, mirrors on mounts and linear stages, vacuum stuff. It may be a FTIR spectrometer but that's a wild guess.

What do you figure the vacuum stuff is for?(I might guess as a part of the spectrometer if your correct)

.....and yes, it was the HeNe, psu, mounts and the one nice linear stage that caught my eye. That said though, it might not be worth the 8 hour drive....

I was all for it until you mentioned an 8-hour drive

If one is a "local" the components alone are worth much more than the asking price.

I have no idea what the unit was originally used for. Google may help you with that answer.

It may actually be different pieces of equipment. The sellers may have simply "grouped" anything with the "Laser Photonics" name on it, together for the sale.

If I was anywhere near Liverpool, I would get this just to take it apart ;)

Peace,
dave

Yeah that drive is a real killer on some of the my finds. About 6 months ago or so I found a full Yag system with TONS of extras for $200, but that would have taken a 12 hour drive.

I guess I have to draw the line somewhere with my laser enthusiasm!

Dave, that does not surprise me about you ;)

Driving vacation???

You travel say 6 hours, take a break, see the sights of whatever town your in, have a meal, a beer, a sleep and up next morning at it again, another 6 hours and you have your yag gear. Then you just gotta do it all over again on the way home (pick a different town to stay at on the way home) :P

Indeed, split your drive up, take heaps of good music and stop for a good meal or 2, make the drive enjoyable :) Then you can look forward to picking up something at the end of it, then messing around when you get home.

6 hours isn't that much of a drive, heck 12 hours isn't even that bad. I dunno about traffic there but I do 4-5 hour drives quite regularly each way. If you're trying to be cheap, sleep in the back seat of your car.

I'v done some real driving for sure, and know how to live out of my car, I just don't think it's going to be worth it for me;)
It looks like there is at least one person bidding on the unit, they may score it for a cool $10!

Well I see a gas Raman shifter cell and parts of what looks like a "F-Center" laser (Google it).

Laser Photonics made some incredible state of the art stuff, and also made custom gear for other manufacturers to rebrand.

Your guess is as good as mine, but I see two or three different systems there.
