Laser is weak

I ordered this and expected it to be somewhat strong but it hardly gives off a laser at all.

I realize it actually isn't 1000mw, but it should give off some more light. Should I charge the battery over night?

Well, for starters it's probably not even 10% of the rated power.

It's also 405nm, which doesn't appear as bright as other wavelengths. You should try a 532nm laser pointer.

For that price it's not going to even be 100mw. Just as ARG said, the wavelength won't be as visible to our eyes as 532nm (green).

try it out in a complete dark room do you even see the beam at all? you should i can see decent my 100mw 405 from laserbtb, if u cant then i would say its not more then 50mw or so cause 405 needs like 100 or more to be somewhat visible even in total darkness.. its typical garbage from those sites they write all lasers are 1000mw to sell to people who have no clue and think its that powerful..

It might be 100mW actually, because it's probably using an ol' PHR-803t that are everywhere. Even those crappy "5mW" pens on Amazon.com reach 40mW.

Op: try shining the laser on some bleached white photocopier paper, or some paper with some fluorescent highlighter on it. It'll look a lot brighter.

My main reason for buying it was that I have plenty of green and red laser (a few I built myself) but no violent lasers and I wanted to get a look at what a 405 nm looks like. I have no idea what kind of power it puts out but it will do all the typical burning tricks at close range when focused. It will ignite matches in a split seccond and it will reliably light cigarettes. Even when not focused you can feel the heat if you put your hand in front of the beam. If focused it will yoield a painful burn so, don't point it at bare skin. My guess is somewhere between 50 - 100 mW. I opaid under $9.00 when I bought mine. Goggles are mandatory when using this. 405 nm is indeed a very interesting wavelength and an awesome color. My next 405 will probably be a homebrew laser.

Actually they can't. The ones on eBay maybe, but Amazon has enacted a new policy to make sure all lasers are <5mw. They must have FDA documentation proving that to be listed on Amazon.

I'm on vacation right now so cant test my own out but it sounds like more than 100mW if you are actually lighting a cigarette and not just causing it to "smoke". I don't smoke and have never tried any of my lasers out on one so someone else needs to jump in on this one. 405nm IS great at burning that's a fact. Most of the cheap China pens I've purchased ran from 60mW up to 100mW and I just don't think that's enough power for that. Have a few that look like your unit but all are less than 100mW.
