Hey everyone!

Here's a cool survey Idea I had a while back... Basically there are a LOT of different kinds of hobbyists on LPF and I was always curious as to how the demographics span out. (Age to expertise? etc?)

So here's a quick "poll" put together,

Laser Interest Survey

Itl take a couple of seconds if you're interested too.

Regards,

Amk

good idea- I have something about to start for those interested in lasershows but are ATM more of a Hobbiest/Beginner than a money making pro.

ILDA is the industry association that helps to keep doing show as hassle free as possible- they are the only lobbying group for us and do a lot of good.

Currently the cost per year is $125 iirc for the casual user that is not a student-- they can join for iirc $50 per yr. There are more 'catagories' that cost more.

Anyone just getting into projectors are faced with a lot of high expensive gear and SW so $125 may keep them away from ILDA.

I have started a petition to ask ILDA to add the hobbiest to the student group or designate a user group that is also only $50 per year, personally it would not bother me to not have voting privledges etc but would still like to help support ILDA and get their newsletters.

In November there will be a big conferance for ILDA in San Antonio Tx.

I will be there and will address this issue and present the petition- SO I need names to make them see that they are losing out of member fees to us hobbiests. ILDA needs to know that we are serious about both lasershows and safety. They are excluding future Pros by not allowing an affordable option. We are not trying to steal gigs from those who have gotten a variance and are compliant(C&V).

Some of the hobbiest will never do this and become C&V , while many surely will.

We will also be asking for a new catagory in the awards for the novice/beginner--

People who can influence ILDA about this are Bill Benner of Pangolin, Tim Walsh of Laserspecticals (Sam MarcosTX and past pres. AND the founders of ILDA) and Dr. Charles Maricle of AixiZ Lasers and an ILDA corperate sponsor & conferance sponsor. You can also help us greatly on this by sending your opinion directly to ILDA and all three of these.

thanks for reading this and PLEASE send me a PM with your name so I can add your to our petition.

Please put ILDA PETITION IN THE HEADING.

Am I the only one that felt the $25 and under, and similar options for the last question, were a bit redundant? Or am I living the high life with nothing to spend money on but myself? I really hope the latter is not more prevalent than the prior :/

Syntax Nazi in me couldn't help but make a correction :p

In terms of spending, I think there are lots of students on here who likely only spend a few hundred a year... which can easily average out to $25 or under per month.

I knew there was something inherently wrong with that statement, but I couldn't figure it out, so I went with it. I also thought the first part was wordy, but couldn't do much about it. Although I agree that being a college student would take precedence over hobbies. Should be interesting to see how it all comes out in the wash =]

Also, grammar Nazi here, what irks me more is that with new technology, and spell checks available, how can one make a simple spelling error? It baffles me. The only thing holding me back here is the wide variety of international visitors we suck in, can't help a grammar barrier when they don't even know the word "grammar" in English

I started to fill this out, until I hit the questions about testing diodes...which totally doesn't even apply to me.
