Laser Contests - Support, Suggestions & Questions!

Okay I'm not exactly sure how these prizes are going to be distributed. Tonyt says he will ship them to me but is unable to ship them internationally to the winners, that puts me in a difficult position.

I know I organised the competition but I don't think that means I have to pay for shipping to other countries. I can't afford to ship these things internationally, especially as I'm young and without a job. What should I do? Should I just say no prizes unless the person giving the prize is willing to pay for shipping? Competitions on other forums I've seen don't even have prizes, other than bragging rights and their special title.

I don't think anyone is going to hold anything against you gun, you did a good job running it and you'll know for next time. If the prize holders want to ship the prize great, if not bragging right really are enough.

I did actually tell you that from the start? I said I would ship the prizes to you when I first offered them.

Thanks for the support TheDukeAnumber1 :).

tonyt, you said 'We'll work something out', I guess we didn't in the end :p. Bad planning on my part.

Sorry to those of you who won prizes but will no longer recieve them, however Lazerbeak is willing to ship his prizes directly to the winner in a months time! To be honest, I don't think the prizes were that important to most of us, the contest itself was the prize :D

But I'm sure there still will be more prizes in future contests.

Dude you can't do that! You can't offer prizes for a contest then just say they can't have them because your not willing to post them to the winners??
I said to you i am more than happy to post the prizes to you and any future prizes that i offer. I just thought as you are the organizer of this competition that you would distribute the donated prizes?

Anyway,
If someone want's to go me halves in posting the prizes i will chip in the other half. It will be about $70-80 total so pm me if you want to chip in.

Well I am doing it, I'm fairly sure that no body will be too upset. I'm sorry but I can't afford it :(.

Well one thing is for sure, if you offer something you have to stick with it. If the contest was to have prices, it should have prices.
Gun with all due respect, making a contest and getting donations for the prices is part of the idea, but I don't see why the donations have to come all the way to shipping the prices to the respective winners.

If I am a donator I can perfectly send the prices to the contest host, and he should be the responsable in shipping them out, that is a donation itself. If you can't even afford to pay for some shipping, than, in my personal opinion, you shouldn't have hosted the contest in the first place.

You did your part as a host, and members did their part as donators, but in the end if they don't get the price, probably than all this contest doesn't have any sense. It's not the fact of a $10 price that will change the world of a participant but you won't get many other on your next contest if you don't fix things out.

Depending on the prize and cost of the prize itself, would it not be fair to have the winners pay for the shipping of the prize and make that a stipulation when entering? Like, idk what the prizes all were exactly, but if it's lets say around a $50-100 prize//prize package and all they have to do is pay the shipping, I mean yeah it's not totally free at that point but it's still going to be cheaper then if they had bought whatever the prize is themselves without the contest. Also, if you do decide to extend the build time and time for entries you can gather up more prizes from any potential sponsors making it more worth while for people to enter since the new prizes//packages will potentially be worth more in value then the price of shipping itself..

Plus, then you could have different people around the globe hosting multiple//different contests at the same time and that way people entering in have more options and entrants can pick and choose as to which contests they want to enter based on the prizes available and shipping costs if that will affect them..

Good suggestions mdubbicus. Yes Norbyx, we can't hold contests and and have winners receive no prizes, that's just way too disappointing. In Gun's defense he is a student with no income and stated he would be able to contribute his time. Everybody will get their prizes and I'm sure the next contest will be even better now that all the possible pitfalls have been figured out :D

I understand compleately that a student doesn't have money to spare, but please let's be clear from the start.

The host of this contest has the responsability of it. If the host is making this contests just to gain some Rep, or prestige in the fourm, but in the end the whole competition has no prices as it was promised from the start, than it's just a joke.

I know that there is no income in hosting this things and there should be no expenses ether, but in this case, let's try to make it work for the next one, or let there be no prices at all, and let the contest be held as a honor and pride competition period.

We could also talk to a mod. and ask if a new Section could be opened in the forum, with the contests, and the monthly winners, that would make it up for some.

Point is, let's try to make things right from the start. Even though this is just a game for most of us.

To be clear, everyone will get their prizes :)

This is a forum contest. Everyone appreciates Gun moderating the contest but in the end adult members with income will step up to make sure everyone gets what they won fair and square. Anyone who wants to help is free to PM Gun directly. I'm sure some already have ;)

I'm sure the next contest will go much smoother now that the possible road bumps have been identified

I think Gun just jumped the gun a bit when he said what he said (pun intended :D )

The whole point to me and why I love the forum so much is that it is a community and the members actively help and support each other whenever and however they can.

Thanks to LB for offering up half the postage costs. +1 buddy.

Don't get me wrong here.. I am not having a go at gun, i am just saying I did say from the very start that I would be willing to donate these prizes and send them to the organiser for redistribution.
If i had a business that I was promoting by offering the prizes or something like that it would be a very different story and I would happily eat the postage costs.. But i don't have a business and in all honesty I just donated some items that I had that i thought the winners may want? With no ulterior motives.

Anyway, everyone will be getting their prizes!

Understood Tony and thank you  It is most awesome of you for offering such excellent prizes to begin with and I'm sure others will be more than happy to help out. You definitely shouldn't be expected to pony up the costs for shipping.

I'm sure Gun and any other future organizers will have a better understanding what to expect and how to set things up to avoid donors having to put out more than their fair share ;)

It'll be a few weeks but no worries to our excellent winners!
