i have a first gen kryton and the tail clicky has gone bad. i've never had one of these switches apart and would really appreciate help in getting it apart without breaking it. i just installed a phr diode in the host and after some very frustrating testing found the switch is bad.

It should be simply held in place by a snap ring

Remove the snap ring and then push the switch out by pushing on the clicky cover

If you need a replacement switch, I have some here.

For use with a PHR you should be able to use a non-modified switch

ahhh, snap ring. having a bit of trouble with it so far, i'll get it. thanks dave!
once i get it open i'll be back

edit: got the snap ring out, checked the switch and it worked - put it all together and nothing. i did this twice. i don't think the little tabs on the sides of the switch are making contact with the host. getting the ring in and out was a bitch without the proper tool. gonna put this down for a bit:beer:

If the switch is working while out of the laser, but not working while in the laser, it may simply be that the little nub on the clicky cover is too long.

Sometimes the spacing allows the nub to contact the switch button, pushing it in just a hair.

Unfortunately, that "hair" is just enough to break the contact inside the switch

Try cutting the little nub down just 1/8 inch

I do this routinely when I build Krytons (and I have built LOTS of Krytons )

You may be able to do this without removing the switch again

There is usually enough "slack" around the clicky switch cover to simply pull it out the rear.

You can also work it back in from the rear after you cut the nub down

Check Harbor Freight for some cheap snap ring pliers. Well worth the price to have on hand. The one I have comes with three different "tips" even.
