YouTube - World's Most Powerful Handheld Laser - Review & Giveaway!

This has left me speechless. Is he going to give 2 of those to people that (probably) don't know anything about laser class 4 safety and/or blue light hazard?

About the lens caps, it's some easy maths.
Assuming it's underspec. (900mW) Probably not exact, these caps are not $10000 lab grade optics, are they?

Line effect: 900mW split into 1m line 1mm thick = 0,9mW per square milimeter. Class 2 SAFE
Cross effect: Same as above, but split into two lines = 0,45mW per square milimeter and 0,9mW in center. Class 2 SAFE
"Galaxy" lens: Probably 16x16 = 256 indvidual dots = AVEARGE 3.51 mW per dot. Almost surely there are over 5mW dots in the center. Class 3B/R UNSAFE
Focusing lens: No shit, Class 4 danger.
Flashlight and floodlight: Turns laser into a regular blue light, safe and probably unmeasurable. Class 0 :D
Training lens: They reduce 80% but there's still 80mW left. Class 3B UNSAFE

Hopefully his battery blows up before they get sent out. :D Having said that, I entered. Might as well enter, slightly greater chance the laser will end up with someone who knows how to safely handle it. :o

Oh well, he does tell quite a lot about safety in the video, and i suppose the laser will come with safety instructions as well.

Those lenscaps seem sort of dangerous though, like the grating that produces the stars effect. I bet some of those beams are still class-III, and that doesn't combine well with something people may use as a disco toy.

Kipkay is another person in need of a good

Someone needs to beat him with the business end of an arctic, that end looks enough like a mace as it is...

So just as I was going to say that he actually did advertise some laser safety (and rubbing it in our faces that he *wore* THE goggles during making of video), I saw that his age limit for entering is 13.

Jesus Christ!

Sure ages do not directly represent capability and responsibility, but 13 ?!

Ahh, at least he used goggles. Wicked lasers ones. Which won't protect you against direct hit at all, according to many reviews.

EDITED: Sorry for the galaxy cap. Look at the first post for the maths.

Disagreed about transmission matrix diffraction grating or noobly abbreviated "galaxy lens".

You cannot simply divide power like that. Dots at the center are the most powerful, as you get away from the center power of individual dots decreases.

So math for that is quite a bit more complex.

I know that, but this is enough just for refference. Someone needs to LPM all the caps.

"Doing this for his fans"

Doesn't he mean fan-count?

This is highly irresponsible of anyone to give a laser to a 14 year old who potentially knows nothing about laser safety. With that said, I'm gonna enter..

I'm not entering for the sake of principle.

Recieving a gift from Kipkay? No thanks. I don't need his *gifts*.
I do not respect him, nor do I need anything from him.

Besides this entire giveaway is an advertisement for wicked lasers, not his generousity for his fans. He gave $600 in lasers, recieved double-or-so for commercial.

Having said that, I WILL NOT enter.

He is nothing but irresponsible. I agree that age and responsibility can vary, but to just an anyone 13? Yea, this is a fan count "look at my numbers" thing. I don't know much abt YouTube, but he's benefiting from it somehow.
Even ebay sellers use his name as "KipKay project suitable". Always bids on that stuff.
He was getting comments every few seconds this morning "I want it", "Pls pick me" and such. Begging also requires subscribing to his channel it seems to be eligible. I'd rather not have one if I have to get it that way.

Rant over................

He is getting use out of it.
Wanna know how ?

Putting the WL advertisement thing aside, there is some Youtube program which , when you join, you get payed per view.

There is some good explanation of the thing in one of videos from creators of "Is it a good idea to Microwave this" a.k.a "Let's Microwave..." , they explained how they get money from views by youtube.

Kippy here is no different. Everytime you watch a Kipkays video, you donate few cents to him from somebody else's pocket.

it makes me pretty mad reading the comments seeing 13 year olds (yes, they are actually stating they are 13) exciting about winning this.
