Yeah probably social engineered.

Basically, he calls up Amazon and tells them his kindle is broken, gives them a fake serial number, and they ship a replacement expecting the broken one back, which he never sends. He has amazon ship the replacement directly to whoever pays him the money which could leave you liable to amazon for returning the "broken" unit that never exited in the first place.

I've seen people selling this service for as low as $25. Its illegal and fraudulent.

Seems like a hell of a headache to go through.. Even for a bill and a half or so..

Sigh.. Oh well.. I guess you'll find your losers to buy from you, but from what I've seen, in the short time I've been a member, it won't be here.. LOL

I like this lot.. We don't suffer fools.

(Its like watching a trainwreck.. You know you're seeing something bad, but you.. just.. can't.. look.. away.... :) )

The KindleFire's serial number algorithm was cracked. People have been registering fake kindles then reporting them broken. Amazon sends them a replacement, then they are supposed to send the broken unit back to amazon. Then, when they never relieve it Amazon tries to take the money from their credit card which is a 25$ Visa/MasterCard gift card.

THIS IS FRAUD AND THIS IS ILLEGAL. Rot in a pit of fire Rammenstien.

When did this happen? Google doesn't bring much about this up
 
What they do is just make up random serial numbers that follow the same format as a kindle serial, and phone in and ask if their product is under warranty and give them the phony serial, and repeat this until they get a valid serial.

Or sometimes they will accept an invalid serial as long as you can prove your purchase, so they make up a fake receipt or photoshop a picture of a kindle with their serial number.

Me too... I only know about this because a guy tried to sell me one before for 100$ NIB. Of course, if something is too good to be true, then it's probably illegal. I did my research and found out what was going on.
