Keeping a small dot over one mile distance

Yes, I watched it and the one thing that worries me is that he basically labels flat Earthers as extremists. The next step from extremist is terrorist. I know that if the establishment start losing control of this argument they will start locking us up as terrorists.

Not extremists but misguided, confused and unwilling to look at scientific fact.

Much wisdom here guys. Srow you really need to get a grip on reality bud. Watch this video.

I was about to write a quote from that video, beat me to it! :)

I can't believe we are actually arguing over if the Earth is flat or not, this is a little silly.

Say what now

Totally trolling.

Ed

Totally

Now that is a fact ;)

lol it's a good video.
It is silly isn't it :D

Okay, sooooo
- I put a soda bottle on the kitchen table at night, turn the light off, I cannot see the bottle anymore, therefore it is not there.
- I walk through the park just before dark, my favorite 120 foot tall pine tree is standing. I walk there first thing in the morning and it has fallen down. I did not hear it so therefore it made no noise or sound as it fell and smashed to the ground.
- I want to make chicken soup, I go out in the yard and grab a hen that is pecking feed of the ground. I chop it's head off and drop the carcass with the head removed onto the ground and the hen runs around. Therefore it is still alive.

Lets argue about these too, Good Lord!!
BTW I know the answers already ;)

A more effective trolling technique but a troll without question IMO.
FEED them and they will keep coming back. Starve them and they will move on to other food sources.
Don't feed the trolls.

Yea, maybe a troll, maybe not, but for those interested in the subject:

A single mode laser diode with as small an emitter you can get is the thing you want, but good luck finding those specifications for most laser diodes. Regardless, most any single mode laser diode will have fairly low divergence and you can probably get one to work without using a beam expander, if you have binoculars. DTR sells R,G and B single mode modes here:

https://sites.google.com/site/dtrlpf/home/diodes/rgb-diode-budle

Although the above link is for a bundle of three, one of each color, you can see the choices and buy them separately on his web site too. If you want to use red, 638nm is far more visible than 650-660nm red, green is the best choice for visibility due to the sensitivity of our eyes at that wavelength. If you want to reduce the divergence of these single mode diodes even further, get a 1 inch diameter beam expander. I've been able to see the dot on a high cloud base over 1.5 miles high using both the red or green single mode diodes listed at that link without an expander. You can get these diodes cheap enough and build them into a host in 10 minutes if you buy one from DTR with a driver already built into it. Adding a beam expander isn't as easy since you can't find them ready threaded for any Aixis module hosts out there I know of, but you can probably just tape one on, if need be, I've done that many times.

The divergence of 50mw single mode laser diodes is so small at one mile distance when using a 1 inch diameter beam expander, due to making a smaller spot, they can produce one brighter than a 25 watt multimode laser diode could (if one existed) using a 6mm diameter G2 lens. Only one thing, these low power single mode diodes have a very unimpressive beam, rather dim, especially if expanded, but the spot they can produce at a quarter mile or more away will be much brighter. Put a beam expander on a multimode laser diode and you can have just as bright a spot at the same distance, but the lens will need to be several times larger diameter than the one used on a single mode laster pointer to do that.

I didn't want to debate flat earth but I'm glad I did. You put forward so many good arguments I couldn't resist.

Dude, I took this sequence of images of the 2007 Total Lunar Eclipse.
Round Earth eclipses light coming from a round Sun, which casts a round shadow on our round Moon.
We witness the round shape of the earth's shadow crossing over the moon's surface until it's fully eclipsed, at which time the moon turns blood red due to refraction of sunlight by our atmosphere.

Notice that the moon is a sphere, it has a three dimensional look about it when you look at it.
Through a telescope it not only looks round but it also looks like a sphere !
Same as the earth, same as every other planet and star out there.

BTW you're not USAbro are you?

That's just because the moon is made of cheese :na:

Good idea. can we start a ridiculous debates section for people like this guy?

Awww you're no fun. i get great kicks out of trolling the trolls.

@ bobhaha "That's just because the moon is made of cheese"

The craters are made from the mice and rats that live on the dark side of the moon ;) :D

That's a really great idea. I think we can. I expect it would be required to be confined to one thread. Maybe a controversial topics thread where we can discuss things like flat earth and hollow earth, UFO's & aliens, ghosts, paranormal phenomenon, Bigfoot, myths & monsters, ESP, remote viewing, conspiracy theories, and most anything controversial.

BullShit or not? You decide.

Should I take care of this? Or do you want to do it kcarlson since it's your idea?

Alan

That thread already exists. It's called the religion thread ;)

Bloody Hell, I can't keep up. I've looked up the definition of 'troll'. Am I troll? On some sites I definitely am. On others definitely not. On this site I can't decide whether I'm a troll or not because if I am I was definitely pushed into it. I know that whatever I post now is going to provoke an emotional response so if that is one of the definitions of a troll then I suppose I am. Sorry about that.

so If the earth doesn't rotate. Explain how we have sunsets and sunrises. unless of course you believe the earth is the center of the universe.

I think, together, we have proved that the coriolis effect is bogus. This means the earth isn't rotating so the sun must be rotating around the earth. So, how does the sun set? Flat Earth theory states that the earth is a flat disc and the sun circles around the north pole between the tropics of capricorn and cancer at a fixed height above the earth.

Now, we have to talk about perspective. Remember in art class when we were kids. The teacher told us that objects would appear to get smaller the further they were away from us. This didn't mean that the objects actually became smaller with distance. They are still the same size no matter how far away from us they are but due to the laws of perspective they appear to become smaller. We have all experienced this. It's how our brain interprets the signals that our eyes are receiving. What the teacher failed to tell us is that at a certain distance objects appear to become so small that they actually become invisible. Yes, they become INVISIBLE even through they are still the same size and on the same level. This applies to objects of any size and luminosity. The point at which distant or large objects disappear is the horizon or what we flat Earthers call the vanishing point. You cannot see anything past the horizon because anything beyond this point has become so small that it has become invisible to the human eye. Also the level at which the horizon appears is dead on level with your eyes. Yes, THE HORIZON IS ALWAYS LEVEL WITH YOUR EYES!!! So, as you go vertically higher the horizon will follow your eye line. Check it out, it's true! This is due to the laws of perspective. I really need diagrams to explain it fully but that is basically it.

Get ready! Here it comes! THE HORIZON IS NOT DUE TO THE EARTH'S CURVATURE! If it were the horizon would not follow you as you ascend upwards. When you stand on the beach the horizon is level with your eye line. If the horizon were due to the Earth's curvature it would be on a level below you feet and not level with your eyes.

As for the sun. The reason why it sets is because when it passes a certain point it appears to become so small that it vanishes just like anything else.
