Just ordered my first 473nm DPSS from Jetlasers

I think I'm one of the only people on here who really doesn't find it that remarkable. I got mine, turned it on and promptly thought "is that it". lol. it might be because I despise anything that is in between green or blue, so cyan's, turquoise etc, and I find under the "right" light 473 looks to have tiny bits of green in it. I'd probably best not bother with a 488 line then :shhh:

That's strange, I think you're the first person I've seen who doesn't like the space between 515 and 450! I think it's my favourite. What is your favourite area of the spectrum then?

Thanks Hak, I just joined the jet club. I am hoping to by one of their pen's soon. I havent seen one of those before are they new?

This one is new- the first JL 473 were around 50 mW BUT they needed to be warmed up to make full power- apparently they can stand the heat- so keep that in mind-
AFAIK there are no others at all just like Gray- AND- he has been way more than generous to the forums. PLUS his English skills are great- Gray has set the bar very high-- all should be like him!!

We have a social group here for JL owners- join us!!

BUT unless you click 'group tools' and add the group as a subscription otherwise you wont ever know when something new happens. I have some like-new JLs I will be selling soon.& will do that at the group (ROG) only.
great prices too.

make sure you SUB!!!!!!!!!!!

Yes those pens are fairly new, they've been out since july or so. I've got a 532, and a 650 ordered, they look like they're a nice high quality pen.
Here's a link to a thread that Encap started about the time that these came out, and also, another link to a thread from Davidx. :)

BTW - Welcome to the J/L owners club; not the other "Club". :D

Really!!? It's funny how different tastes people have. I would give my right arm for a true aqua cyan laser. That one Sytro made is sick as hell! We're complete opposites. I've never cared for 450 or 445 until early recently. My blue has maybe an hour run time on it but recently I broke it out and it's growing on me. I never understood people's love for that wl. It's just too dark for me and 405 is as boring as doing my taxes. Lol. Can barely see that color but mine is only 400 mW so maybe they get more interesting in higher power. No surprise but for me 561 and 589 make my legs shake, most beautiful color I have seen. My 589 is like my child. If I ever finally land a damn PGL 80mW your going to see me freak out. I'm still spending hours a weak trying to get one. I figure one of you guys will eventually just sell me your to shit me up.

Yeah that look. Sweet, I tried to order another really nice host from Podo's site but it was too confusing. He has a 515 I'd like to add to my collection so I'll pm him.

@ Gabe, nice avatar!! :)

Haha, thanks! Figgered it was time to change it up now that I learned how to use gifs I made as avatars, while still keeping the card theme. You got a pretty sweet avatar yourself ;)

Actually JL had a few tiny Titanium handhelds (10440)- they did not do well so JL stopped-if they have brought them back I assure you they are much improved.

@ 473 JL
here is what I did- warmed it up with fresh batts(> 2 min)- THEN swapped them out and as long as you did not let it cool down a lot- expect it to be a little overspec and get there much quicker. It will be warm ...By feel you will know when it has gotten close to 'too hot' so give it a rest.

Same thing can be done by warming the entire laser..I have used the far corner of my heated waterbed..

Not long ago we never thought we would get 473 that was affordable-- so YAY!

.......AND we get that thin beam we all love from pumped diodes!!

I must be missing something, swap the fresh batts out with what?

Hak, I ordered the 5A power unit as well. Do these 473's run better off them than battery?

I'm sure Len just misspoke and meant to change the first batteries out after the unit has warmed up for fresh ones.
I have some credit with DTR that is enough to get the new 465nm complete module at 4500 (external driver) that should push it to around 470nm or so but I haven't committed yet as he has hinted at other diodes that he was going to test with no information on what wavelength they might be. I wouldn't think you would be able to see much difference between 470 and 473 if at all to get that color added to what I already have collected so far. Have a couple of 2.2W 462 (which apparently are actually 464nm) and really wonder how well you can see that wavelength vs. a 470 (or 473nm if I push it even harder). Wouldn't it be nice if you could see/test before you buy.
The only reason I still have a bit of $ is because my Workers Comp case isn't over yet. After that is done I'll need to sell stuff to purchase new stuff. Certainly have enough lasers to sell to get me by for awhile depending on the market and my pricing. There's no reason for me to hold onto so many but it's not that easy for me to sell because so much time was put into them. Who actually needs a 100 532nm lasers though lol
Oh and congrats on a great purchase. Hope it works out for you and it's really what you wanted. Always best to not put so much expectation though if you can or no matter what it is you'll find something that will dissapoint.
Personally it seems so strange that I don't own any jet unit and only one CNI. At least the CNI is a one off or at least it's doubtful anyone else has it (<5mW 520nm purchased recently from Alex). Wish I had purchased the <5mW 532nm he had for sale at the time to go with it.
Congrats again and I'm looking forward to your take on it;)

I think I would like the 473nm and the 520nm a lot for my first lasers.

I want no goggles lasers which means 5 milliwatts and IR Filter.

Do you think with adjustable focus a 473nm will have a visible night beam ?

I am quite sure the 520 nm will since these are used in Astronomy Pointers.

I found a company who will make these fairly cheap in the "JD 851 "Host.

What do you think ?

Does your 473nm 5 mw have a visible beam at night ?

I assume a true 5mw 515nm or 520nm would be visible beam ...right ?

Jetlasers have very awesome looking host. Be sure to make a review for this baby. :D
