The ti laser pen has a back-up battery compartment for two non-rechargeable AAAs though it's recommended to run on a single 10440. Is the 800mah 1.2v Ni-MH AAAs you meant? I guess the runtime is incomparable to the 3.7v 10440. I might be wrong.

Thanks for your understanding! I will update if jetlasers finds good solutions for a stable 250mw and better heat dissipation.

Hope everyone is enjoying the sunday there! Sorry for keeping you waiting the 405nms jetlasers is heading towards. Just some updates on these units.

Speaking of the PL-C 405nm, we're redesigning the power supply board to fit more 2 x CR123s rather than a single 18650 that fits a boost up circuit. One of our tech guys first mixed up the 10x and 12x diodes(some are sleds, unextracted, some are extracted), thus from time to time we only came up with are 500mw+ or 600mw+ since according to the data sheet for 10x sled, the output is only around 600mw
at a 6v voltage.

The beam profile of the 500mw 405nm jetlasers has currently made is basically rounded while there are evident artifacts on the spot when the laser is defocused and extremely enlarged.

Notes: Sometimes the profile is more irregular than the pics posted above. Some work is being done to improve it.

So we've got to focus on the 12x diode now and I hope to pose more updates soon. If sadly the output cannot reach 800mw due to heat or duty cycle or other issues, i will promptly keep you informed(succeeded a few times but the power drops when applied to a 18650 battery)

Regarding the ti laser pen, sorry that only up to 200mw can be provided now(Special apology to Jaxz, Jedirock and Bobby:scowl:). A single 10440(3.6/3.7v. 320mah) is recommended. I will inquire if Ni-MH AAAs works.

It has a back-up battery compartment(removable) and two non-rechargable AAAs also work but the runtime will be shorter.

Hi Gray, is your Ti-pen able to take up Protected 10440 in your compartment? I heard protected batteries are longer and some laser units are not able to accomodate batteries with longer versions and must stay with non protected versions. Please help to clarify. Thanks lot
 
So the 405s will be taking 2x CR123 batteries instead of 1x 18650? A little disappointing, but I can work with it. The only question I have then is what is the current draw over 6V? Also, can they take 3.7/4.2V RCR123 LiCo batteries, or is the voltage too high (8.4V max)?

Sorry for this and 18650 units are much available now but the power is only around 500mw. I guess the main reason for shifting to 2x CR123 is to increase the output power.

RCR123 is just the 16340, right? If so, two 3.7v one also works but the 4.2v is too high a voltage. So just go with 2x 16340s if you prefer. :)

BTW, 2x Ni-MH AAAs are not recommended for the ti pen 200mw.
Merely a (2x1.2)2.4v cannot suffice to power the 200mw output and the input voltage is recommended to be above 3.5v.Thanks!

Sure Jaxz. The protected 10440 also works. There's a spring that flexes to the negative end of the battery, so just don't worry. Go with it! :)

IMHO realistically any 200 mW pen laser will eat up any battery(s) pretty fast.

@ the 405s.... I can only speak for myself but if a little more time is needed to make them that is fine by me. And just like the Ti pens ~800mWs of 405nm will also use a lot of power fairly fast.

Beautiful they may be, but the issue with 2x Ni-MH batts has me worried somewhat. I don't currently have any 10440s, and would prefer to not have to get some just for one laser. Also, I don't believe there's any reason why a good driver shouldn't be able to boost the voltage to what is needed. What happens if 2.4V in is used? Will it work at all?

As for the 405s, the reason I said 3.7/4.2V for the CR123s is because while they normally run at 3.7V, there will be a short period after a charge where the battery will be putting out 4.2V each. No problem though, as I have some 3.2/3.6V LiFePO4 chemistry CR123 batteries which will work fine.

I concur with hak about the 405s. If more time is needed to get them sorted out I'd rather exercise patience and get a better product rather than see the production rushed.

I'm sure Gray and Jetlasers will take good care of us in any case.
 
I'm also OK with waiting on my 405 PL-C if it means better results.
I'm also OK with 2x123A (assuming that they can take RCR123A 3.2v just fine?) if that means better output.

Hopefully this waiting would not last long but the national holiday for spring festival and hope there are still ways to ship international during the holiday! :)

I agree that the 200mw pen eats battery super fast and personally I prefer to keep the pen lasers at lower output. 100mw or 150mw is good enough and make other models the options for higher powers. Even the output is alike, a 100mw ti pen is still incomparable to a PL-C 100mw anyhow. A PL-C 100mw might work continuously for 20+ mins per time but a ti pen 100mw is still recommended to shut down for cooling in one min or so.

Hey Aryntha, 2xCR123A is preferred while two RCR123A 3.2v(550mah?) also work fine. 16340(3.7v) is preferable. :)

jedirock, don't worry. Two 1.2v non-rechargable AAAs are also okay. The current shall be enough but it happens the power somehow drops.

Regarding 10440s, if it's not a big trouble to ship batteries in US, Jetlasers can ship 10440s and Sanyo 18650s in bulk separately via EMS to Hak for back-up uses but I guess it would potentially bring Len into trouble.:D

Hmm... Now I'm confused. I thought you said that the 3.7V RCR123A (aka 16340) batteries would be too high of a voltage (8.4V max, 7.2V nominal)? If it's not too much, then it works all the better for all of us IMO, but I'm just confused now.

RCR123 is just the 16340, right? If so, two 3.7v one also works but the 4.2v is too high a voltage. So just go with 2x 16340s if you prefer. :)
 
It would be no trouble for me if some batteries get sent for the guys in the GB.
