JetLasers Equality Series

yes... I had a PL-E mechanical 700mW that peaked 10mW short of 1W we're talking insanely bright, and dangerous.

My PL-E pro 800 does >1200mW peak :D

Only thing i dón't like about them is the tailcap (even after a replacement cap wich is bypassing the jackplug)
When pulling it out, the laser still works but drops 300mW in output.... (there's still something very wrong inside this designed tail cap)
All this tralala isn't needed and will only result in bad connection.

Perhaps there's enough to jump the gap and create an arc across the tailcap, sacrificing a lot of power but still closing the circuit? I doubt there's enough power to jump the pin's gap but just a thought

Are you serious ? :p

Sounds more like shitty soldering to me.
The design is just not perfect... a coin makes better connection then this whole tailcap... it feels kinda light too for it's size.
Something aint right.. want to fix it... but all is glued shut.

Man, that sounds great, smeerworst...I'm looking forward to having that power in hand!

Better than the PL-E Pro?

I am trying to decide between a 300mw 532nm PL-E Pro vs a 500mw Equality series. Just interested in beam quality. I read that the PL-E Pros have a problem with the tail cap not making a good contact and reducing output. That's what is pushing me towards the Equality series. Any words of wisdom?

The tailcap problem was solved a while back--so not a consideration any longer.

I'm not so sure about that...

Recieved two new (fixed ?) ones today, and they are 100% identical in weight with the problem one...

Did some quick testing today, and results weren't so great...

Have to do some more testing :(

And in the end i'm asking ''begging'' people that have the skill, to perhaps make me a custom solid one.
>800mW pulls allot of oemphf...

Maybe hak will chime in--he seemed to think the tail cap problems had been resolved and has the new revised caps available for anyone still with a problem.

Sneerworst--maybe sinner could do a solid tail cap for you with or without his heavy duty tail clicky ?

If I purchase the 300mw version....would the tail cap cause me an issue.... Or is it only a concern with higher power versions.

Also....which should I buy: 500mw (532nm) Equality or 300mw PL-E Pro??? Mainly interested in beam quality and range....not burning:)

Ask Gray at Jetlasers----he is an honest and good guy and will not lie to you.

Explain the differences in focusing between the Equality and PL-E series. What do they mean by internal focusing?

I got two the same day-- will test them asap--
Not so sure that weighing the two tells us all that much- I would much rather see a better output regardless of weight. I would hope the the expense of having one made would justify that but.... until we know these are NOT improved (since we carefully explained to Gray what was discovered and how we tested to confirm that-)- I will trust JL--

It would be totally out of character for Gray to send us the same ones back. did not keep any of my old ones as i had room in a box going back- I now wish i had kept one of the old ones..I may still have one somewhere`..

I do not think the power has any effect on the tailcap

^^ that is an absolute fact

Explain the differences in focusing between the Equality and PL-E series. What do they mean by internal focusing?

Internal focusing afaik was first (ever) done by JL with the PL-E series- what that means is: when you change the focus you do not see any parts on the outside moving- the lens inside moves internally -The system has also been used in the Pro Pl-E BUT NOT in the EQ series--
other differences-

EQ is a smaller host--unable to use the 26650 size battery ONLY the 18650

Exception being the EQ 445 - almost every 445 laser uses two 3.7 vdc batts. The EQ 445nm 500mW will work with a single 18650 BUT the power will be way below spec. (~250mW)

ALL JL Lasers have reverse polarity protection (BUT putting the batteries in wrong and leaving it turned on for more than a second is a BAD idea- the diode may survive but the driver may not)

All JLs take the battery with the plus to the tailcap( but this is NOT true about ALL lasers!!)

All JLs come now with a LPM graph- & are very carefully tested before express shipping.

All JL DPSS lasers (now) have high quality IR filters.

All JLs ship overspec. (any laser loses power over extended ownership - JL wants ours to always be at least spec)

The EQ has less tendancy to roll off the table . (due to the 'heat fins')

BUT on the neg side-it has no place to attach a lanyard.

no key- and ONLY the tail cap switch-no momentary function.
And you cannot use the JL Beam Expanders on EQs.

On the plus side the tailcap switch is the newer and better metal one.

Its a 5exy design & the size is perfect IMO. It can be had (if in stock)in 3 choices of host color- black, of course( a very smooth black-(not rough like the WL black lasers)a metallic silver /grey color and a metallic dark grey-green -which is pretty much an exclusive JETLASERS color--

Gray NEVER ignores messages- has great English skillz- and has been consistantly one of the very best company reps we have ever known=
He has done MANY good deeds that only a few here know about. And many we do know of too.

any other questions can be answered if you will send them to me by PM.
BTW
JETLASERS do not come up for sale used very often--

Order the holster its fits perfect and is priced low(iirc $10)- waiting later will cost you more in shipping- the EQ is a bit too big to just fit well in your pocket so..putting the holster on your belt may be better..

I currently have FS a PL-E 445nm 900mW silver host- extras include a second battery tube and two free sleeves that allow either 18650s or 26650s- this laser is under warranty and has only been used as a demo-
Comes with two free 18650 batts and a cheapy charger- price to sell quick at $200 plus ship- I only ship CONUS-

- I also have three (only) Titanium JL Ti-Bs 14500- at 100mW of 532nm green- with one batt and charger $100 plus ship-- JL is the ONLY company that dared to make a laser from the very pricy titanium- these were listed at $220 when they first came out-
only a few left and AFAIK no more wil ever be made. (possible collertor's item)

edit update-- sorry
I was mistaken saying he EQ JETLASERS lasers has internal focus-it does not-
I have done an edit

How about the 532nm Equality 500mw? Does it run on (2) 18650's?

no
jetlasers.org
see the specs on all there-:shhh:

just from the size you should already know that there is NO ROOM for two 18650s :yabbem:

ONLY the PL-E(NOT Pro) series can use two batts that long --AND to do that you need a second batt tube and sleeve
*w/o these sleeves you can use two 26650s like the gold KINGKONGS with 4000 mAh*
- you will be able to run longer before a re-charge but do NOT expect a huge bump in power-
