Well, its had a hard life, it spends its life on the shop floor but its worked fine for a while now. I don't have my meter handy to check the battery or the charger but the thing is 100% unresponsive. The power button does nothing, plugging the charger in doesn't change any status lights. The power brick still lights up though. I'll check some voltages when I get home and post those results.

Is this a common problem or is there a list of things to look for? I've never really worked on one of these...
 





i used the charger from my dead eee to make a psu for a mini rgb. 12v 3a works like a charm ;)
 
I fixed it

It was carrying an extra 5 pounds of weight, in metal chips. I cleaned it all out and about lost it when it actually turned on. Seriously, its amazing it didn't explode into a shower of sparks as many chips as there were in there...

I need one of those Levano toughbooks :D
 
haha. thats just too cool. i carry a few diff laptops for diff applications, one of the perks of the job. my favorite so far is my lenovo thinkpad. 8g of ram, quad core, and a swivel screen touch tablet.

lenovo ftw.

You should know better than to store metal chips in a laptop: Laptops eat plastic filings, not metal ones!

Seriously, though, watch that. That could have ended up much worse.

Yeah, that's not a laptop... That's a netbook. My dad has a 9", and it's seriously tiny. Then consider that they go down to 7" screens...

Me, I love my Lenovo ThinkPad. Had a couple parts die because of negligence on my part (the LCD screen was the most expensive of those), but the motherboard, CPU, GPU, and RAM have been well protected through it's bumpy ride in my life. Seriously, this thing is a tank, and I would have no problem using it as a club to beat someone over the head with. :D
 
The biggest part of the whole laptop is the hard drive, it is a standard 2.5" drive.

I would keep it away from the metal if it was mine, but the guy who uses it keeps it right in front of a mill that is constantly throwing off chips. Jedi is right, it is a tank. That thing is covered in cutting coolant and oil and steel dust and who knows what else.

I just fix em when they break, job security :D

If you could find the older HP 2133 or 2140 you would be good to go as well. They used a aluminum case and a spill resistant keyboard. So I would suspect that shavings would have a harder time getting in.
