So while messing around on my phone the other night I accidentally switched "invert colors" on. All the laser pictures on my phone looked strange and kinda cool, so I thought I'd share. :D

Here's the beam of an argon through a tank of soap water:

Not a beamshot but a pic of an Industrial Fiber Optics 633 nm HeNe:

Feel free to "un-invert" them to see what they originally looked like if you want. :D

I like these photos. I'd imagine it is the coherency and monochromaticity of the laser beam that adds to making them so ghostly in their inverted appearance. This makes me want to play around with this and other photoshop abilities and see what else can be done with these types of images. :kewlpics:

Cool to see something way different from our regular beamshots. Don't think I've ever seen this.

That's pretty awsome, it like changes everything in the background to white/grey and then inverts the wave length, some interesting camera work. Would be interested to see a "vintage filter" from phone camera on some lasers.

Trippy...I like it, we'll have to get BruceMir to do some.

H2Oxide, after reverting yours to the original colors, I had to try it for myself. I hope you don't mind, I'll remove this if you wish.
I tried this with an RGB shot that combined to make a white dot. With the use of the negative image, we can now make black !

A lot of us have this feature available, but haven't used it, thanks for reminding us how cool it can look!

hey PED,
If you process your pics through Adobe Photoshop there are many special effects like that, though it is very rare when I use them photographing lasers or normal stuff. I have on occasion made some of my laser pics black and white and have experimented with the contrast and levels and gotten some nice variations but I have enough to do photographically with lasers each week to keep me busy with just that.

Very cool. I like how you used the additive primaries to create white, but inverted it looks like subtractive primaries used to create black! :D

Nice. I quite like the 488 line, things like this was what got me into lamps as some lamps have the same spectral emissions as lasers because of the chemicals used.
