It's been a while since a new writing speed of bluray has hit the market. We've been stuck with 12x for the past year and a half now? What gives?

I'm not sure what the deal was before, but I think the tsunami might have something to do with any further delay.

Wait and see ( if you have a remaining eye).
^^^Thank you for the update... as well as for taking the plunge with it. I can't wait to see what you can do with the new diode. As always I'm hoping for greater power... I really hope the smaller size is not a detriment.
The 12X "speed" is the physical limit of how fast these discs can be spun (for now at least). Now they are going with more layers of writing to advance the product
The quad-layer writers are hitting the market. I tore open one of the new ones. Unfortunately, the violet diode is in a 3.8mm can. I am waiting on a module to be able to test it.

I have an aluminum aixiz module made by sightfx. You can borrow it if you'd like. It has a smoc red in there though. Think you can get it out without killing it?
Probably not. I would have to get "lucky" and simply find something to push it out with. I do NOT like trying to push out open can diodes
Wannaburn said he would make one for me. That was ~10 days ago. It shouldn't be much longer now, eh?
Peace,
dave
I hate how the market is moving away from the standard 5.6mm cans and moving instead to plastic packages and 3.8mm cans :\ If they permanently switch to plastic packages at some point in time, our hobby may be severely restricted.
Because making mounts for those have yet to begin... we haven't figured out a goos way yet :\
