im using LG 20x DVD burner diode, please help!

i saw the window of heatsink with the diode in it i saw the front of it it was just like that, can you help how to get the diode out of it, some glue like epoxy was on it.. how can i get it sfely thanks.

Post some pics, I can't help you otherwise. Well I could but it'd be harder since I don't know how the heatsink is positioned around the diode.

Grab each side of the cast metal the LD is in with a pair of small pliers on each side and twist in opposite directions. I have had great success with this. ;)

hi rossco actually this is the sketch of the DVD lens pick up bottom view, you see a red dot on the dichro mirror and black dot on the next i rip first the diode in front of dichro with black dot and then i saw the open can thing, hows that?

Not sure what you are looking for here. The diode is mounted in a heatsink...and should look just like the one in the image chido posted. roSSco would be the one to ask since he has extracted the diode from this same drive. They are all a bit different, but the basics are the same. Most everything on the assembly is glued including the lenses that cover the diodes. They should easily pop off, just be very careful you don't damage the diode.

this is what the LG pickup looks like after both LDs have been removed. The IR is open-window type, the metal can is there, though. The red LD is glued with heavy-duty glue in its cladding. I got it out by carefully rupturing the cladding with cutters until 1/3 of the LD flange was visible and then lifted it up little by little, levering along the exposed flange with a small screwdriver. You have got to be extremely easy and careful.

Hi phenol you got exactly what i meant, it was the same laser pickup as mine so i detach first the red 1, i think i got to be very very carefull with that.
phenol how was the setup of this before the soldering ? do you think i put it first on the collimator then solder it, right? correct me if im wrong, please guide me, thanks.

i'd recommend you press it in the collimator first before you do any soldering/testing. sure you wouldnt want wires and caps in your way during insertion or frying the diode due to insufficient heatsinking. also make sure you take ESD precautions while handling the unconnected LD - stick some Al kitchen foil between its leads, for instance. I had an ESD bracelet and conductive mat when i did this.

ok , is it ok if i use aluminum tape as well before i put the LD in the heatsinked collimator?

hi i just wondering, if you observe the red dot on dichro it was in the front of black dot dichro, mine was alternate the red one was behind the black dot dichro, how was that?

In the pickup in the photo i posted both mirrors have red dots. i have another, identical pickup, which is as per your sketch - the first mirror has a black dot and the one behind it - a red dot. mayb they belong to different lots. i dont know how the dot color is important. both drives had the same diodes, though.

Re: im using LG 20x DVD burner diode

Hi folks here the images of my first test of DVD laser burner project, i test it using 1pc. rechargeable cr123 (3.6v @600mAh), i turn the pot to its maximum resistance to minimum resistance, but i dont know how much power (mw) i get this time, according to my DMM the current i ran was 270mA @ 2.8 - 2.9Volts, I compare my bluray into white paper with it to see if there's a difference between two lasers, i observe that bluray have much brighter that the Red one, guys please i need help and advice, how much mW is this according to your observation to my picture? for now i didnt test it yet using two cr123 nimh rechargeable, anybody who knows whats going to happen if put the full 6volts in it? thanks.
