Identity of StoneTek diode?

thats odd. hopefully they are 1239jl.. honestly who here pulses their diodes anyways?

Just for observation, Im running mine at 150ma, and according to the lpm1 it is producing 82mw. :)

you know you can go to 250ma and it will still live a very long life but it will burn about twice as good.

..lazer... ;D ;D ;D

on what basis do you say it will live a very long life?

from what i hear 250mA outputs 180mW? 80 mW to 180 mW is more than doubble

the life depends on the heatsinking and on time/usage...

sorry to be nit picky,

amk

eesh.. from 80 to 180 close enough to double :P not many people are gonna use a calculator to say its 2.25 times stronger when they can just look at it and know its about double.

i still have no idea what im driving mine at though.. mine are only the 8x diodes and they get hot pretty quick in just an aixiz module. i usually leave them on for a few minutes at a time though. i can pop a balloon instantly at around 10ft (my apartment is small cant check much larger) and even cut black electrical tape in a few seconds at the same distance. my driver cicuit is just a cap, diode, and 2 10ohm resistors i think. i run it between 3-5 volts no idea what amperage. im guessing my psu is putting out more than 2 aa batteries. if mine can do it i dont see why you cant get more out of yours

I need the good coherence length for experiments, so im running mine low. :)

thats not a driver, thats more of a current limiting resistor cap setup. using a full driver will ensure proper current regulation

but hey, resistors work too!

Resistors and a cap are better than nothing, but a driver is really the best way for keeping the diode happy.. ;D

happy days...

lol sorry for OT

so, these senkat diodes are rated at 100mW? I thougth they were capable of like 200mW when pushed to the limits...

er right.. i will be adding lm317 in the future.. right now im running it off a variable volt and amp psu that i made in high school along with those other components. i just set my voltage and amperage on the lowest settings and turned them up till i was happy with the results. still waiting to get a decent pair of batteries and something to put everything in. cant make a decision. just got everything stuck in the proto board right now along with my ultrasonic sound emitter just in case im feeling mischievous

yeah senkat diodes are rated for around 100mw cw..but uh.. you ever overclock a computer? its pretty much the same thing.. my cpu is like 1.7ghz stock.. i got it set at 2.5ghz right now ;) just takes a big chunk of aluminum and a large fan strapped to it

lol high five man, 3.2 Ghz stock CPU for me, (x16 multiplier) i got it to 235x16 (3.76ghz) with water cooling, and i basically b--utt f--ucked my GPU from overclocking it...

LOL sorry for OT

BTW, if ur a comp expert, can u look at my thread in the off topic section regarding NVIDIA and ATI GPU's?

sorry for OT and threadjack,

I recently bought 5 of these diodes for the purpose of testing. So far they haven't been able to reach 200mW. The first diode showed an absolute operating max at 140mW, and the second diode had a max. of 160mW before some strange valleys in the output. The second diode had a 'second plateau' around 190mW, so I ran it there during a test and it only lasted 1.5 hours before complete failure.

So, these diodes cannot/should not be pushed to 200mW, and for best life should be run below 150mW. I'll be doing more lifetime tests later. If you would like to donate to the testing fund (this is getting expensive) I can provide runtime plots and precise V/I/P plots.

well arent these lds only rated for 100mw cw anyways? so 150 is decent

80mW CW rating. You can push them to the limits, and you reap the consequences. Some get lucky - some diodes can probably push 300mW for a while with proper heatsinking. Some might crap out immediately at 200mW. Much more dangerous IMO is the ones being run at 200mW+ that work fine for a few weeks/months, and then crap out on you. Its all a crapshoot when you're overdriving though!

Indeed. Lava's findings pretty much snych with my findings this far. Essentially it's these diodes are not what we expected them to be or are of considerably lower power than a different batch he was offering. What it comes down to is you can NO LONGER expect your senkat diodes to run over 150mw for any period of time. I've got 8 returned laser that I'm currently repairing (replacing diodes) to prove it. Lava, I'll donate to your research. I need to know what these are capable of and what the plot is. Expect a paypal payment shortly.
