I need someone with a power meter

You do have to remember, the Lasercheck is spec'd at +/-5%....

Don't forget the Coherent motto:

I love my meter and sensors! Will never go with another company!

D@mn that's an expensive looking meter!!! And you're the one who's in high school? What store did you hold up to pay off that? lol

Coherent gave me the meter, it's $2699 new.

They just gave it to you?

What is it that you do?
Do you or a family member work for them, Just curious?
You always got something super cool. You even had a for sale thread not long ago, littered with major high end parts and stuff.

This is gonna be good. Place your bets gentlemen. My guess is a crack dealer.

No, I am not a crack dealer, thank you...

I am a high school student, and as some of you may have figured out, I also do lasers, as both a hobby, and a business.

When I ask Coherent for something, I am not just bullshitting them saying "Can I hav PLEz?" It involves talking to certain people and explaining how it would benefit my education and help me learn about lasers and one day may help advance the field with a new invention or development. The goal is to prove to them, that by giving you this piece of equipment, they are making an investment in the future of their company thinking that it will pay off. It is also good to note, that this deal is such that I cannot ever sell the meter.

I can't believe that worked!?!?!?!?!?

I mailed a letter to a gokart company once trying to do the same thing and they gave me hella BS which I thouroghly expected. Now that I think about it I was just asking for the price of the karts.

Can you PM me a general template of what one might say. I am in high school as well but I've never ever gotten anything free that has to do with hobbies. I just don't understand what you could've said that would make Coherent give you a $2.7K meter!?!?

Edit: Let me just say you're a lucky guy.

Answer me this: How is owning this meter going to help you education and how will that help the company? Why should you, among all of the people who want that, be the one to get it?

I'd have to think about that one. You must have a way with words. Do you really plan on going into the field of lasers one day as a profession or even working for Coherent?

Thats the plan :)

My teachers seem to disagree about my way with words... I got a C+ in Contemporary Lit last semester...

That's something you don't see often, a high school student who knows what he wants to do with his life. What would you major in in college? Or would you just go straight to some sort of "on the job" training. What grade are you in high school?

I envy you.

Edit: I'm in bed if I don't respond.

I plan on going to College to study photonics.

I can believe they would you are very well spoken and have a great deal of knowledge, I only hope to learn that much.

Hmm maybe I will adopt you. Then I could play with your lasers...:wave::wave::crackup:

Keep up with your drive and determination and you will make it far.

Apology to the OP for being off topic.

If a high school student contacted me, demonstrated intelligence, drive and an interest in my profession (holography and lasers), I'd give'em a meter too. Best thing anyone can do for education, for many reasons. The whole world is available to those who ask. I wish I knew that when in high school! I wish I had just one adult acknowledge my interest and support it. Just one.

Good show, Ben. You deserve it!

Thanks Bob! Look forward to seeing your lasers at Photonics West! Should be interesting this year at the Moscone center! Will you be there all of the days? I am looking at coming on Tuesday. Also, are you going to have the Hugues Argon laser there?

Have you been offered a position at Coherent after college?
